Queensland Election 2020 : Electorate Profile Murrumba
Murrumba is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland.
The district is based in the outer northern suburbs of Brisbane. It includes the suburbs of Deception Bay, Kippa-Ring, Murrumba Downs and Rothwell. The electorate was first contested in 1912.
2017 Results: All 14 polling places recorded Labor two-party preferred majorities, Labor’s vote rising from 54.5% at Undurba State School in Murrumba Downs to 68.6% at the Kallangur Community Centre.

After settling in the area in 1995, I have established a strong association with the electorate of Murrumba. This election provides an opportunity to address inequality, urban sprawl, losses in biodiversity, highlight climate change concerns, and improve the liveability of our cities.
I am passionate about clean energy and have been vocal about since becoming involved in a community renewables project 10 years ago. We can create thousands of good, secure jobs by building a 100% renewable network and replacing coal-fired power stations to keep our air clean and leave nobody behind in the transition.
The growth of SE Qld suburbs is leading to a loss of significant areas of habitat and placing undue burden on native wildlife particularity the koala. I will continue to fight to achieve a balance between conservation and development. My involvement with bush care and koala advocacy groups has shown the possibility of preserving the koala populations in urban environments with urgent establishment of green corridors and habitat zones.
Queenslanders have waited too long for a government to pursue an aggressive integrated public transport plan in our state. The Greens have a costed plan to create an effective network of trains, buses, bikeways and footpaths and make public transport free.
Our state’s assets should be managed by the government for the benefits of the entire community. Both old parties resort to privatisation to cover poor economic management, but some things should never be for private profit. By reversing privatisation and making corporations and mining billionaires pay their fair share, we can put essentials like energy and health back in public hands to create a better life for all.
Our environment sustains us physically, emotionally, and economically and yet the environment is ignored in the measures used to govern us like economic growth and GDP. It doesn’t have to be this way.
The pillar of grassroots democracy underpins the Greens policy platform and brings the community back into the political process. I am self-motivated and confident in my ability to represent the Greens and the people of Murrumba for a sustainable future.

Having lived locally for over 40 years, Yvonne is a respected member of the Murrumba community. A former Councilor in the Pine Rivers Shire Council, Yvonne has a proven record of advocacy for her community and locals know that when she makes a promise, she delivers. Yvonne also owns and operates her own business and has seen first-hand the damage Labor has caused to Queensland’s economy.
Murrumba needs a strong voice who will stand up for residents in Parliament. Yvonne is one of many Murrumba locals concerned with rising cost of living and increasing crime rates. Even before coronavirus, Queensland had the worst economy in the country thanks to Labor’s mismanagement.
That is why Yvonne is proud to be part of Deb Frecklington’s team and is committed to the LNP’s plan to get Queensland working again.
In her spare time, Yvonne is involved in many local community groups, and sings regularly for the Lions Club of Kallangur and with the Red Hot Mamas community singing group.

Growing up locally and attending Petrie State School, Steven was taught the value of hard work through his first job at the local Woolworths supermarket.
As a husband and father of three, he understands how important it is to make sure local families have access to quality and affordable health and education services.
Nothing matters more to Steven than creating new local jobs. That’s why he’s a strong supporter of the old Petrie Paper Mill redevelopment which will help support 6000 new local jobs and provide a brand new university for our area. Steven Miles and Labor won’t stop working to provide new local training and job opportunities, especially for our young people.
As a senior member in Annastacia Palaszczuk’s government, Steven has the energy and experience to bring home results. He’s already stepped in to save the Kallangur Memorial Bowls Club and is fighting to stop the destruction of local heritage listed Anzac Trees. No issue is ever too big or small for Steven. He’s someone with the experience to fight for us.

What this electorate gains
The key election issues that decided the vote were health, education, roads and infrastructure.
Health
Labor, if re-elected, will deliver a $37.5 million Pine Rivers Satellite Hospital, supporting 109 construction jobs.
While the Redcliffe Hospital is not in the Murrumba electorate its residents use it. Labor has pledged to put $6 million towards hospital expansion plans.
Roads
A massive $2.1 billion will be set aside for a congestion busting plan including the Moreton Connector, on/off ramps at Dohles Rocks Road and upgrades to the Bruce Highway, Gateway Motorway and Gympie Road.
Education
Dakabin State School will benefit from $500,000 in upgrades.
Another $8.8 million has been promised to deliver the Dakabin Family and Community Place at Dakabin State School and Dakabin State High School
Undurba State School will reiceve $500,000 to refurbish its out of school hours care facility
Mango Hill State School will get $10.9million for a new multi-storey classroom block.
Infrastructure
Labor has promised to create 200 new carparks at Mango Hill train station and a new park and ride
