Redcliffe is a Legislative Assembly of Queensland electoral division in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

The division encompasses suburbs to the north and northeast of Brisbane, including Redcliffe, Woody Point, Scarborough, Clontarf and Margate, as well as parts of Kippa-Ring. The electorate’s boundary stretches to take in Moreton Island.

The seat was created in 1960 and was first held by Liberal (later National) member Jim Houghton. The seat was contested between the Liberal and National Parties until Houghton’s mid-term retirement in 1979, followed by a by-election won by Liberal Terry White. White became the Liberal Party leader in August 1983, causing a split in the National-dominated coalition government. In 1989, he lost the seat to Australian Labor Party member Ray Hollis, who at one point was Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. In 2005, Hollis resigned and the Liberals’ Terry Rogers, a local accountant, picked up the seat in a by-election upset, with an 8.4% swing. However, his tenure in the seat was short, and he lost it to Labor’s Lillian van Litsenburg, a school teacher, at the 2006 state election.

Scott Driscoll, president of the United Retail Federation and a local resident born in Redcliffe, contested the seat for the Liberal National Party of Queensland at the 2012 state election, winning with a 15.67% swing. In March 2013 Premier Campbell Newman suspended Driscoll from the Liberal National Party, due to allegations that the MP had misled parliament about his business interests. The month after his suspension, Driscoll announced his resignation from the LNP, and committed to serve the remainder of his parliamentary term on the cross-bench. However, he resigned from Parliament on 19 November 2013 citing ill health–though he was also facing all-but-certain expulsion from the chamber. This triggered a by-election on 22 February 2014, in which former federal MP Yvette D’Ath reclaimed the seat for Labor. She won 57.1% of the two-party preferred vote making it the safest ALP seat in the Queensland Parliament.

2017 result : Labor registered only 38.9% of the two-party preferred vote at the Bally Cara Retirement Village in Scarborough, but passed 50% in the other 11 polling places used in 2017, reaching 61.2% at the Hercules Road State School in Kippa-Ring.

I’m a student and have lived on the Peninsula my entire life. I was born in Redcliffe Hospital and have called Redcliffe my home ever since. I wouldn’t change this for the world!

But I also know that our community has been neglected in favour of big business – the banks and mining corporations that contribute big donations to the major political parties.

Life for those already living it tough has gotten worse under COVID-19, and the economy now no longer works for many, but only a select few.

Manufacturing and jobs are disappearing, and our leaders appear to be asleep behind the steering wheel as we approach a climate emergency. It just has to stop.

I’m excited about the Greens Queensland recovery plan to create tens of thousands of jobs a year by investing in public services and infrastructure to make life better for all of us. We can have free public transport, clean, renewable energy, and affordable housing if we make the mining billionaires and big banks pay their fair share. It’s just common sense.

Young people are often told to stop moaning and do something if we don’t like the direction that our government is going in, rather than sit by and watch. That’s why I’ve decided to run and get behind the Greens progressive plan for a better future.

It’s time to do something about a system that priorities the rich and powerful but leaves the rest of us behind. We have the perfect opportunity to send a message to those in Parliament that they cannot ignore ordinary people much longer. The system as it stands now has failed, and we want change.

Kerri-Anne Dooley is a Registered Nurse with post graduate qualifications in Health Science, a Community Advocate, Social Entrepreneur, Sessional Academic and your LNP Candidate for Redcliffe.

Her love of Redcliffe and community service started at birth, born at Redcliffe Hospital with the sand between her toes and the sea in her soul. At the age of 16 years, she was elected first Deputy Youth Mayor of Redcliffe City Youth Council and Vice- Captain of Redcliffe State High School.

Kerri-Anne currently works full time as the Care Service Manager of Home Instead Senior Care empowering seniors to live and die in their own homes, whilst volunteering and chairing multiple community organisations.

Kerri-Anne has demonstrated her leadership and advocacy in being a voice for the voiceless; for people living with dementia, for dying children and adults through community palliative care, for the homeless, for people with disabilities and those living with mental illness after the recent diagnosis of her own son with bipolar.

She is passionate about encouraging others in the value of community service, believes the meaning to life is found in what you give, not what you get and service above self.

Currently serving as the Chair of Redcliffe Crime Stoppers, Kerri-Anne rescued it from being dissolved in 2014 responding to an SOS in the Redcliffe Herald, championing community safety through various events in partnership with the Redcliffe Police Crime Prevention Unit & Neighbourhood Watch Groups. Kerri-Anne also chairs Redcliffe Special School Chaplaincy Committee along with Woody Point Special School Local Chaplaincy Committee and helped create the annual Help Them Shine Dinner’s supporting chaplaincy across all of Redcliffe peninsula raising over $100K in the past 3 years.

After her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer, she signed up as a volunteer with Cancer Council Queensland. Celebrating her 5th year (2018) as a volunteer with them, she now Chairs, Redcliffe Relay for Life raising money for cancer research, education and support, helping raise a total of over $200K collectively with the committee and participants in the past 5 years.

A proud member of Deb Frecklington’s LNP team, Kerri-Anne is passionate about delivering for the community she proudly calls home, and getting Queensland working again.
