Time Table for resumption of Schools in Queensland has been announced

As the coronavirus curve begins to flatten significantly in Queensland, restrictions have begun to ease for the general public, while maintaining social distancing rules guiding all Queenslanders to remain virus free.

With schools on the agenda today the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced a partial resumption of schools from next week, with kindergarten, prep, Year 1 and years 11 and 12 to return to school on May 11.

State Government would then reassess the situation on May 15 and that, should everything had gone to plan, all students would return to classrooms from May 25.

State Education Minister Grace Grace also emphasised it was essential from anyone who was unwell to stay away from schools.

Ms Grace said increased cleaning would be undertaken at schools, and protocols around social distancing wherever possible would remain in place.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said the drop off and pick up of students needed to be worked out over the coming weeks.

It was really important that if students were sick that they stayed home.

It is expected that gatherings, such as assemblies, will not go ahead at schools.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said she was also pleased “the vast majority” of people had been careful over the weekend.

The decision comes after an easing of restrictions on the weekend, allowing Queenslanders to gather in parks and public places.

Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said Queenslanders had behaved well over the weekend, with some exceptions.

Some COVID-19 restrictions were eased at the weekend, allowing people to leave their homes for recreation and non-essential shopping.

More than 900 officers worked across the state to ensure the public were enjoying their new freedoms appropriately.
