Pumicestone snubbed in Labor's School Air Conditioning Stakes : Simone Wilson

Member for Pumicestone, Simone Wilson says the State Government has failed to include any schools in her electorate in its recent air-conditioning announcement*.

“Not one school in Pumicestone has been put on the list, leaving our kids and teachers to swelter through the hot summer ahead”, Ms Wilson said.

“They’ve cherrypicked schools for air-conditioning by using heat discomfort data, a combination of the highest average apparent temperature data and the highest number of school days in Term 1 and Term 4 above 30°C.

“I’d challenge anyone in the State Government to come and sit in one of our un-airconditioned classrooms in the Pumicestone Electorate and see if they can stand the heat our kids and teachers have to suffer”, Ms Wilson said.

Ms Wilson noted that it has taken the LNP’s push on air-conditioning classrooms to move the State Government into action.

“Whilst Pumicestone has been snubbed, I am pleased that the LNP’s pressure has resulted in the Palaszczuk Government getting moving to air-condition some other schools sooner.

“It’s small pickings though as only the LNP has a plan to air-condition every State School classroom in Queensland.

“That commitment includes Bribie Island State School which has been put at the top of the LNP’s list”, Ms Wilson said.
