Sports Clubs in North Lakes Combine for Funding from new State Government Sports Program

Local sports clubs in North Lakes have joined forces with North Lakes Sports Club and Chris Whiting MP to chase down sports funds for infrastructure from the Annastacia Palaszczuk Government’s Activate! Queensland plan.

Activate! Queensland 2019–2029 is the Palaszczuk Government’s 10-year $1.3 billion plan to get more Queenslanders active and includes the Active Community Infrastructure Funding program for local sporting infrastructure.

“Last night The North Lakes Sporting Venues Advisory Committee met to set out our local priorities for funding applications under the Active Community Infrastructure Funding program,” said Chris Whiting.

“We have to get cracking and get applications in so our community does not miss out.  The pressure on North Lakes sporting infrastructure is immense.

“The program is now open and Expressions of Interest are due on 22 November 2019.

Activate! Queensland  is a really innovative program that will change how the State Government funds sports in Queensland.

Activate! Queensland  is all about getting Queenslanders more involved and more active in sports and recreation.

“To get the funds we need to demonstrate our project will improve accessibility and functionality of community spaces and places.

“The infrastructure would have to be available for use by a wide cross section of people regardless of age, gender, background, disability, location or financial status.

“The emphasis is on us to collaborate to make sure the investment benefits a wide cross section of people.

“I expect we will be in a position soon to announce what North Lakes project will be in our Round 1 applications,” said Chris Whiting.

A total of $40 million will be invested in up to 150 infrastructure projects over three years under the Active Community Infrastructure Funding program.

Up to $1 million per project will be contributed through the department. Co-contributions from organisations are not required but are welcomed to leverage positive outcomes.
