The Palaszczuk Government has announced it will start works on the $6 million Morris Road and Deception Bay Road intersection upgrade later this year, said Chris Whiting MP.

The intersection will be widened from to three lanes at Rothwell and a new bike link to Rothwell train station will be built, supporting 19 jobs throughout construction.

“It’s another example of the congestion-tackling infrastructure the Palaszczuk Government is delivering,” said Chris Whiting.

“This is one of fastest growing regions in Queensland, and it’s important that our roads are ready for that growth.

“An average of 35,000 vehicles use Deception Bay Road daily, with up to 40,000 using the Anzac Avenue intersection at Rothwell.

“Once complete, this project means families spend less time on the road.

“We built the $37.5 million Rothwell intersection upgrade, have begun designing a new Deception Bay Road and Bruce Highway interchange, and now we’re delivering a $6 million upgrade for this crucial stretch of road,” Chris Whiting said.

It is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $3.13 billion roads and transport program for the region, supporting more than 3,000 jobs.

The Deception Bay Road widening project will include an additional northbound and southbound lane on Deception Bay Road from Morris Road intersection to connect to the signalised Anzac Avenue intersection.

Pedestrians and bike riders will also benefit from new signalised pedestrian crossings at the Morris Road intersection and new bike lanes on Deception Bay Road.
