Creative Studios applications now open – Studio space up for grabs

Applications have opened for local artists and creative industry professionals to access low-cost studio space at the Caboolture Hub as part of the Creative Studios program.

Just four studios are available at the Caboolture Hub for a six-month residency period of $56 per month, a peppercorn rent which even includes overheads like access to Wi-Fi.

Council Spokesperson for Economic Development, Peter Flannery, said the studios had been carefully designed to act as business incubators.

“This is more than just low-cost floor space, successful applicants also receive advice and support to help develop their creative business model,” Councillor Flannery said.

“That includes free registration to Cultivate the Arts events throughout their residency.

“This is exactly the kind of incubator that allows local artists and creative industry professionals to test their markets and expand their industry networks, with the right support and minimal financial risk.”

“It’s a fantastic development opportunity for talented locals.”

Council Spokesperson for Community Development and Support, Denise Sims, said the Creative Studios program had helped launch a number of high-profile local careers.

“Including Ferny Hills comedian Jenny Wynter, who secured both a Creative Studios position and a Regional Arts Development Fund grant back in 2017,” Councillor Sims said.

“That support from council helped Jenny launch her web series, How Me Parent Good, which offered tongue-in-cheek solutions to the challenges of day-to-day parenthood.

“Council was absolutely delighted to hear that Jenny had taken out the top gong for the web series at the inaugural Palm Springs International Comedy Festival in California earlier this year.

“Jenny’s success is inspiring and I would encourage others to follow in her footsteps, or create their own, using these council-supported programs.”

Applications for the Creative Studios positions close on Friday, 23 August 2019.
