The Beachmere Men’s Shed scores council community grant funding
he Beachmere District Men’s Shed (BMS) will receive a $13,000 boost after successfully securing community grant funding from Moreton Bay Regional Council.
The $13,000 contribution from council will be used to fund a large proportion of internal fittings for the Men’s Shed.
Division 2 Councillor Peter Flannery said he was thrilled council was able to provide BMS with a community grant to cater for the group’s growing needs.
“This community grant will enable the guys to fit-out stage one of their new complex with two unisex bathrooms with facilities to support people living with a disability, kitchen and office,” he said
“I’m hoping these works will be so successful that even more locals sign up as members to this great local branch.”
Cr Flannery said BMS had been active since 2017.
“From arranging workshops on how to use tools correctly, to courses on furniture making and even hosting fundraisers, the list of benefits that this amazing group brings to our community is wide-ranging.
“I'm very happy council has been able to assist the men so they can continue their great work to not only help each other but the community also.”
Cor De Waard, President of BMS thanked Moreton Bay Regional Council for their support. Mr De Waard said the grant would fund the fittings for the communal and wet areas of the Men’s Shed.
Cr Flannery said local groups should be commended for their outstanding work in the community.
“Budget 2019-20 is all about delivering healthy lifestyles opportunities, so we’re happy to help facilitate the growth of this great local group,” he said.
“This is a brilliant example of how council continues to support organisations across the Moreton Bay Region and promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
“I would like to thank each group for taking the time to make a funding application to the Moreton Bay Regional Council community grants program.”
