Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell, is delighted to announce that Round 100 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) has brought a total of $103,940.55 in grants to the Glass House electorate, but says that he is not surprised the local community performed so well.

“Given the amount of community groups we have and the expertise of the grant writers within them, Glass House always performs extremely well in the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.”

“What we’ve seen, with only a few exceptions, is that local community groups applying often are successful the first time around, and if not, the second.”

The GCBF provides sizeable grants to Queensland not-for-profit community organisations with revenue sourced from gaming taxes and distributes approximately $53 million per year to Queensland communities.

“These grants are an integral aspect of financing for small community groups who do not receive enough money via fundraising or other smaller grants.”

In no particular order, the recipients from Glass House in Round 100 are:

Maleny Players – $9,335 to install air conditioning

Maleny Arts and Crafts Group – $4,895.10 to upgrade washroom facility

Queensland Junior Harness Racing Association – $4,745.45 to purchase marquees and safety vests

RSL Maleny Sub Branch – $15,000 to install a solar system

Maleny Men’s Shed – $34,965 to upgrade facilities

Woodford Golf Club – $35,000 to upgrade sprinkler system

“As you can see, the grants can be presented for a wide variety of purposes. If your community group is considering applying for the next round but aren’t sure whether the amount you’re requesting or reason you’re requesting it for is reasonable, the best advice I can give you is to simply give it a go and put in an application.”

“This year actually marks 25 years of the GCBF, so by way of celebration, there has been more money than ever just waiting to go to local community groups” Mr Powell concluded.
