Celebrating NAIDOC Week in Moreton Bay

Celebrate NAIDOC Week in Moreton Bay and recognise the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the nation next month.

Council Spokesperson for Lifestyle and Amenity, Councillor Denise Sims, encouraged families to attend celebrations starting from Friday, 5 July.

“Moreton Bay is home to many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and language groups, and we want to help our community recognise their contributions, rich history, culture and achievements,” Cr Sims said.

“Each year council offers financial support to help deliver a range of activities across the region to celebrate NAIDOC Week, running from 7-14 July 2019.

“We’ve got a number of activities planned this year including a flag raising ceremony featuring artwork displays, traditional dancing and children’s activities at Caboolture.

“There’s also a free Family Fun Day event showcasing the traditional culture and history of the First Nations People of Australia in Deception Bay.

“Then on 9 July, the community is invited to come together to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People at St Columbans College, Caboolture.
