Doors open for region’s art exhibition

If you know your Sidney Nolans from your Brett Whiteleys, clear your schedule for this Friday, 17 May because there’s still time to RSVP for the opening night of the 2019 Moreton Bay Region Art Awards.

More than 140 works will be exhibited at the Strathpine Community Centre, including paintings, digital works and sculptures.

Mayor Allan Sutherland will present awards including the overall winner who will receive $8000, four category prizes of $2000 each and a $1000 prize for a Local Artist.

Guests have the opportunity to vote for their personal favourite to take out a $1000 People’s Choice Award, which will be announced at the end of the exhibition.

“This annual event, now in its 26th year, continues to grow from strength to strength and it gives me great pride in the artists of this region to see such high calibre work,” Cr Sutherland said.

Council Spokesperson for Lifestyle and Amenity Denise Sims said Friday’s opening night event was a must-do on the calendar of any local art lover.

“We are fortunate to have such a diverse and embracive artistic community in the Moreton Bay Region and it always makes for a great exhibition event,” Cr Sims said.

Doors open at the Strathpine Community Centre at 6pm on Friday, 17 May for the opening night event. Visit council’s website to RSVP.
