High voltage powerlines moved to make way for new green infrastructure in Warner

Energex has helped Moreton Bay Regional Council move six high voltage powerlines to create green space and a new fauna rope bridge at Kremzow Road in Warner.

Spokesperson for Asset Construction and Maintenance Adam Hain said the green infrastructure would be constructed in coming weeks to reconnect canopy habitat.

“This will provide safer ways for native wildlife to cross local road and access our region’s parks and dedicated green spaces,” Cr Hain said.

“A lot of planning and preparation goes into the construction of green infrastructure across our region and part of that involves moving powerlines.

“Our region is growing and we have plans to accommodate that growth, but equally important is to plan and provide habitat for our native wildlife to preserve our environment in the face of growth.

“So it’s fantastic to see different agencies coming together to uphold community and wildlife safety in Moreton Bay.”

Energex Networks Manager Simon Coman said a lot of project management went into moving nearby powerlines to ensure the safety of workers while construction of the fauna rope bridge was underway.

“To ensure the rope bridge could be constructed high enough, we had to raise the high voltage powerlines by up to four metres,” Mr Coman said.

“This involved replacing an existing power pole with a taller pole to carry multiple strands of 33,000 volt and 11,000 volt powerlines without affecting supply to thousands of surrounding homes and businesses.

“Our crews diverted power from different sections of the local network before cutting power to the lines that had to be raised.”

Energex has also moved an 11 kilovolt powerline underground for the construction of another fauna rope bridge at New Settlement Road in Burpengary.
