Howzat! Council bowls a $200k upgrade at South Pine Sports Complex

More sixes are on the way for Albany Creek Hawks Cricket Club after Council announced it would invest more than $200,000 to upgrade the South Pine Sports Complex’s cricket oval.

Councillor for Division 9 Mike Charlton said the investment would go a long way in helping the youngsters pursue their sporting talents as well as getting fit and healthy.

“This is the reason why Council’s 2018-19 Budget was designed to specifically address healthy active lifestyles for generations to come and that’s why we have invested more than $38 million towards sport and recreation right across the region,” he says.

As part of the project, the oval will be expanded to Cricket Australia’s recommended field dimensions to meet a premier, regional facility.

Works will also include re-positioning  the wicket, new turf to the expanded boundary and improvements to the irrigation system.

“There’s so many benefits to being fit and healthy and this project will provide plenty more opportunity for the local cricket club to play more games and support the club’s growing membership.

“There’s also no disputing that sporting events are huge economic generators for communities and this project will support, local jobs, businesses and sporting clubs and have the ability to attract larger sports carnivals to this part of Moreton Bay.

“I am confident this sporting precinct, once upgrades to the oval are complete, will attract large sports carnivals to Moreton Bay for years to come.
