The evidence is in: Labor’s 50% RET will kill jobs at Stanwell

New analysis exposes that Labor’s crazy 50 per cent Renewable Energy Target will shut down power stations across the nation and threaten thousands of Queensland jobs

Analysis of modelling prepared for Federal Climate Change Authority (CCA) reveals 75 per cent, or fifteen, of the nation’s existing power stations will close under Bill Shorten and Annastacia Palaszczuk’s crazy green energy target

Before an election is held, Annastacia Palaszczuk must guarantee Stanwell won’t close

Today’s analysis of modelling prepared for the federal Climate Change Authority proves that Bill Shorten and Annastacia Palaszczuk’s crazy 50 per cent Renewable Energy Target (RET) would kill thousands of jobs in regional Queensland and send power bills soaring even higher.*

Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington said today’s analysis had exposed the disturbing truth that Labor’s policies would threaten the future of Stanwell in the South Burnett.

“Today’s revelations will send shockwaves through every community across Queensland with a coal-fired power station,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“Labor’s crazy green scheme signals the death knell for Stanwell and the loss of South Burnett jobs.

“Clearly Annastacia Palaszczuk cares more about grabbing green votes in Brisbane and getting re-elected than she does about saving jobs in regional areas – it’s a disgrace.

“The Premier needs to come clean with our community and guarantee Labor’s mad rush to renewables won’t shut down our local power station.

“If she can’t or won’t she clearly cares more about her own job than the jobs of thousands of Queenslanders.”

Deb said today’s analysis exposing that Labor’s 50 per cent RET would push up Queenslanders power bills by another $200 was a total embarrassment for the Palaszczuk Labor Government.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk’s measly 96 cents a week rebate will be totally eclipsed by the $200 a year hike in bills this report forecasts,” Deb said.

“This week’s sham of a power policy from Labor was nothing more than an election eve con job from a government desperate to cling to power.

“The same money they say will fund their measly rebates has already been spent, and the real kicker is that under Labor’s plan your power bill will still go up.

“The choice at the next election could not be clearer – vote for the LNP’s real plan to bring power prices down or vote for Labor’s electricity con job where they take with one hand and give you back crumbs with the other.”
