Moreton Bay investment campaign garners national acclaim
Moreton Bay Regional Council has taken out first class honours at the country’s top economic development awards for its pilot interactive, multimedia campaign aimed at attracting investment in one of Queensland’s fastest growing areas.
The Redcliffe Peninsula Rail Corridor investment portal won the Economic Development Strategic Thinking award at the 2017 National Economic Development Awards for Excellence held at Ballarat, Victoria on October 12 for its innovative use of digital media to target strategic investment and economic growth along the new rail corridor.
Economic Development Spokesperson Councillor Julie Greer said judges praised the use of interactive mapping and 3D fly-throughs as a tool to not only encourage economic development and investment, but to also showcase how suburbs along the Redcliffe Peninsula Line could look in the future.
“Attracting the right sort of economic development and investment has helped Moreton Bay quickly become one of Australia’s fastest-growing areas and prosperous economies,” Cr Greer said.
“For the first time ever, business, industry and prospective home owners are able to find key information and data including population figures and job numbers on one of the state’s fastest growing areas in one location and all in an interactive format.
“That information includes details on booming suburbs like Mango Hill, Murrumba Downs and Kallangur plus the new Mill at Moreton Bay, which will generate 6,000 jobs, 10,000 university places and $950 million in economic activity by 2031.
“Suburbs along the new rail line are expected to grow by 40,000 residents and 19,000 jobs over the next 20 years, and the Redcliffe Peninsula Rail Corridor portal helps prospective investors visualise that growth through CGI artist impressions.
“Council plays a key role in ensuring the region’s projected growth is future-proof and reflects what our community wants, and the investment prospectus has helped paint that picture.
“To stand out against entries from across the country and be recognised the country’s peak economic development body is a fantastic result, a credit to our staff and reaffirms council’s ongoing commitment to economic growth and jobs in Moreton Bay.”
Cr Greer also acknowledged the support of the Queensland Government in developing the portal.
