Annual dinner brings out the pink in cancer advocates in Caboolture

This Saturday, 195 locals will show their support for the fight against women’s cancers at the 9th Pink Belles annual Breast Cancer Fundraiser.

The Cancer Council Girls’ Night In event will be held at Centenary Lakes Sports Club & Function Centre in Caboolture, from 6pm to 11.30pm.

Girls’ Night In is an opportunity for locals to get their friends together for a night of fundraising to give hope to the one in six Queensland women diagnosed with breast or gynaecological cancer in their lifetime.

All the ladies in the Pink Belles group have been touched by cancer in some way.

Since their first event, the Pink Belles have raised nearly $68,000 for Cancer Council Queensland – and for the past three years they have taken part in the charity’s Cancer Free Challenge as Hope Ambassadors.

Pink Belles member Donna Poll said Saturday would be another big night of fundraising for the fight against cancer.

“Everything is coming together well for the evening - we have just finished wrapping up all the raffle prizes,” she said.

“Jamie Dunn is back as our Master of Ceremonies and there will be live auctions and silent auctions.

“One of the auction items is a bra signed by Keith Urban and another is a signed hat by Troy Cassar-Daley.”

Attendees will enjoy canapés and a refreshment on arrival, then they will sit down to enjoy a two-course dinner, followed by live music and dancing.

Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said Queenslanders who hosted, or attended, a Girls’ Night In made a big difference in the fight against cancer.

“Women have never needed an excuse to get together, but if ever there was one – Girls’ Night In is it!” Ms Clift said.

“Girls’ Night In is also an opportunity for women to get together and talk about their health.

“From sharing healthy recipes to fitness tips, checking up on cancer screening and sharing personal stories – we want women to connect over their health and wellbeing.”

Cancer Council Girls’ Night In aims to raise $1.4 million through 3000 hosts in Queensland in 2016.

All funds raised will be invested in vital cancer research, patient support services and prevention programs for women affected by breast and gynaecological cancers.
