Ikea says the North Lakes store will be open in time for Christmas.

Locals will almost halve the travel distance to Ikea when the Swedish furniture and home wares store opens its new outlet at North Lakes. 

Store manager Stefano Bizzzari was yesterday handed the keys to the brand new 29,000 sqm show room, 7 News Queensland reported.

Construction work has finished and 150 local staff set to work immediately constructing furniture for display areas.

The Daily understands more staff are in training ahead of the store's planned opening.

Ikea says the store will be open in time for Christmas.

The new store is located next to the Westfield North Lakes shopping centre, just off the Bruce Hwy at North Lakes.
