Clean Up Australia Day 2016

Moreton Bay Regional Council is on track for a record turnout of volunteers for Clean Up Australia Day, the nation’s biggest working bee this Sunday, March 6.

Mayor Allan Sutherland said there was still plenty of opportunity for residents to get involved by joining one of the 128 Clean Up Australia Day sites listed on Moreton Bay Regional Council’s website.

“You don’t need to register your own site to get involved. It’s as easy as getting onto Council’s website and making contact with the coordinator of the Clean Up Australia Day site closest to you, your family and friends, ” Mayor Sutherland said.

“There are parks, reserves, beaches and sporting complexes right across the region where you can volunteer your time to be part of Australia’s largest annual clean up and help keep the Moreton Bay Region looking its best.

“Last year, more than 11,800 volunteers rolled up their sleeves and collected more than 34 tonnes of litter, or the equivalent weight of 24 mid-sized family sedans.”

Mayor Sutherland said council would provide volunteers with a free Clean Up Australia Kit to assist with the clean up.

“All you need to bring is a wide brimmed hat, sunscreen, water, closed shoes, gloves and commitment to getting the job done,” the Mayor said.

“By taking part in Clean Up Australia Day, you will be helping to ensure the Moreton Bay Region is an even better place to live, work and play.”
