Westfield announces plans for a $140 million expansion at North Lakes to link with Ikea

Westfield will spend $140 million on an extension to link the North Lakes mall with the new Ikea store being built behind the shopping centre.
The major announcement comes on the eve of Westfield North Lakes unveiling its fresh marketplace and dining area on Thursday.

The centre will also open its 8-screen Event cinemas including 2 V-Max and 2 Gold Class, in March 2016.

The next stage of expansion will start in January and is expected to be completed by the end of 2016, around the same time Ikea is expected to open to shoppers.

Westfield North Lakes will spend $140 million on an extension linking the mall to Ikea.

Scentre Group, owners of Westfield, and DEXUS Wholesale Property Fund are funding the next stage, which will provide a covered mall leading to Ikea that will host 60 retail stores including Kmart and JB Hi-Fi.

Scentre Group director of development Stewart White said: “Since opening in 2003, Westfield North Lakes has grown in tandem with the local community — and our investment to further develop the centre is a reflection of our commitment to this area.”

On completion of the next expansion, Westfield North Lakes will be around 113,000sq m in gross lettable area, with almost 280 retailers and 4600 car parking spaces.
