PRADO program delivering results to address Domestic Violence in Caboolture
THE Moreton Bay Region has the highest rate of domestic violence in southeast Queensland, according to a State Government report.
The Not Now, Not Ever report, which looks at domestic violence across Queensland, shows domestic violence rates of 643 per 100,000 people in Moreton Bay in 2013/14.
It places Moreton Bay as having the highest rates in south east Queensland and the fifth highest rates in Queensland.
Senior Constable Clair Parsons from Caboolture police said within Moreton Bay, Caboolture had taken the lead on tackling domestic violence.
She said more people now felt encouraged to report domestic violence and knew they would be given support.
“Police are highly involved in educating the public surrounding domestic violence,” Constable Parsons said.
She said Caboolture police, in conjunction with government and community partners, started PRADO (Partnership Response at Domestic Violence) in January 2010 which coordinates immediate support for those affected by violence.
“60 per cent of people now accept a referral onto a help service where as before PRADO it was 4 per cent,” Constable Parsons said.
“PRADO has this year been rolled out in Pine Rivers and Redcliffe.”
She said while Caboolture still had a way to go in tackling domestic violence, it had taken positive steps.
In 2014/15 rates of domestic violence application breaches increased by 14 per cent across the state while, in the Caboolture, they increased by 11.5 per cent.
The rate of Domestic Violence applications made by police over the same time increased by 5 per cent.
Caboolture Regional Domestic Violence Service is on 5498 9533.
Police are running a Domestic Violence Christmas Appeal.
