Workplaces across Queensland will celebrate Safe Work Month (October 1 ? October 31) from today, with events ranging from toolbox talks to major conferences.

Acting Premier and Minister for Industrial Relations Curtis Pitt said business and industry were embracing this years celebrations to raise awareness about the importance of workplace safety.

Whether they are holding a safety talk or organising a full blown conference on how safety can increase productivity, businesses of all sizes are firmly switched on to the benefits of safe workplace, Mr Pitt said.

The Palaszczuk Government is holding up its end too, with plenty of events on offer including a free breakfast in King George Square with Safety Ambassador Shane Webcke.

Im encouraging Queenslanders to get involved by either getting along to one of our events, or holding one at your own workplace.

Mr Pitt said print and online resources were available to help plan events and shine a spotlight on work health and safety.

Ill be joining Queensland Safety Ambassador Shane Webcke at a number of Safe Work Month events this year in Brisbane and regional Queensland, he said.

Well be reinforcing the message that everyone has the right to return home safely to their loved ones after a days work.

One of the highlights of Work Safe Month will be the Safe Work and Return to Work Awards ceremony towards the end of the month.

The awards honour those people and businesses that are going the extra yard to keep Queensland workers safe.
