Darren Grimwade speaking with with Keith Birks Live on Morning Magazine Friday announced his intention to run for Division 11 in the forthcoming Morton Bay Regional Council Elections in 2016
Darren was previously the Member for Morayfield in State Parliament serving one term.
During Friday’s Morning Magazine show, he is the first candidate in the forthcoming council elections to go live on air. It is anticipated other candidates will follow in Darren Grimwade’s footsteps of starting their electoral journey.
Darren said during the program “Today I have announced that I will be contesting the 2016 Moreton Bay Regional Council election for Division 11.”
“I have been overwhelmed and humbled by the number of people, community groups and businesses who have contacted me and encouraged me to nominate.”
“I’m looking forward to once again working very closely with local people, community groups and small businesses to create a vision for our local area and deliver projects and services that are important to them. ”

Darren and his wife Leila along with their three children live locally in Division 11 and have lived in the area for over 15 years.
Darren began his working life in the hospitality field as a baker and later moved into the economic and taxation fields working as a director for a leading Australian taxation firm.
In 2007 Darren and his wife started a family run small business based in Burpengary, later opening up additional sites in Redcliffe and Morayfield. He employed many local staff and assisted young workers entering the workforce through school based traineeships.
As well as winning many industry awards Darren was named the Qld Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008.
Darren was elected to the Queensland Parliament in March 2012. Throughout his time in the State Parliament he served on the Transport, Housing & Local Government Committee.
Darren has a proud track record of fighting for and delivering record funding to local schools, hospitals and sports clubs.
Darren was instrumental in delivering major infrastructure projects including a new high school in Burpengary, major public transport upgrades and flood mitigation works to protect residents.
He worked tirelessly in partnership with local schools, clubs and the community to deliver bike cops to Narangba Valley, school flashing lights at many local schools and provided upgrades to local sporting complexes.
Darren is a life member of the Narangba Crows AFL Club and Vice Chairman of the Narangba Lions Club. He is the immediate past patron of the Burpengary Pony Club and Burpengary Scout group. Darren is very active in the local area and supports a large range of community groups.
