Artist of the Month – June 2026

Our AOM for June is Darla Boyd. Darla’s passion has been teaching practical art skills at many locations, including her studio at Mt Mee. She is an experienced and qualified Art Teacher with many years’ experience in her chosen field of art tutoring.

After 40 years of teaching, Darla changed direction and now creates her own artwork for exhibition. She has taken part in several exhibitions in the Moreton Bay Shire Region, the Somerset Region and in Brisbane over the past few years and she believes it’s been such a voyage of discovery, changing focus and breathing in a more personal creative atmosphere.

Watercolour has become Darla’s favourite medium because of its unpredictability, immediacy and fluidity.

Surrealism and contemporary expressionism are her main areas of focus, taking influence and inspiration from the art of James Gleeson, Ainslie Roberts, Arthur Louriero, Shay Docking, Alexander Nepote and Ross Booker. Darla believes creating art is a magical journey, so full of energy and excitement and remains endlessly fascinating!

Please support Darla by visiting the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery and viewing her fabulous artwork during June.
