Severe Thunderstorm Warning – Southeast Queensland   for DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in Sunshine Coast and parts of Gympie, Somerset, Noosa, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay Council Areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:45 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Mount Kilcoy, Peachester, Crohamhurst, Maleny, Conondale, Kenilworth and Mount Mee. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. They are forecast to affect Maroochydore, Caboolture, Caloundra, the area southwest of Caloundra, the ranges between Gympie and Murgon and the area northwest of Gympie by 4:15 pm and Gympie, waters off Caloundra, waters off Maroochydore, the area south of Noosa Heads, the area southwest of Gympie and the area south of Gympie by 4:45 pm.

Damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely.

2-3cm hail was reported at Woodford around 1:00pm to 1:15pm

Multiple reports of hail up to 4cm at Bongaree around 2:10pm

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
