SUMMARY:October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
DESCRIPTION:Many of us find excuses when it comes to making appointments for our own health checks. How many times have you heard yourself say\, “I just don’t have the time” or “I’ll do it next week”?\nIf there is one thing you should do for yourself in the month of October\, it’s make an appointment to have a breastscreen. \nOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a timely reminder for eligible women to take advantage of the free BreastScreen Queensland Program. \nMedical Director of BreastScreen Queensland Brisbane Northside\, Dr Jane Brazier\, said women of all ages need to be breast aware. This means getting to know the normal look and feel of your breasts. \n“If you notice any change in or around the breast it is important to contact your GP without delay\,” she said. \nDr Brazier said all BreastScreen Queensland radiographers are women and a doctor’s referral was not needed for this free service. \nA breastscreen is strongly recommended every two years for women aged between 50 and 74\, as this is the age group where the benefits of screening are most evident\, however women in their 40s or 75 years and over are also eligible to attend. \nBrisbane Northside services are available at Chermside\, Brisbane City\, Keperra\, Kippa-Ring\, North Lakes and Indooroopilly. \nMake the time for yourself – phone 13 20 50 for your free breastscreen today or book online at www.breastscreen.qld.gov.au.

SUMMARY:"Women Like Us" come to Caboolture Sports Club! Friday October 13
DESCRIPTION:‘Totally relatable…charismatic female Comedy! Had the crowd in Stitches!’ Glamadelaide \n  \nWomen Like Us comedians Mandy Nolan and Ellen Briggs are different from your usual comedians. For a start they’re women. They’re mothers. They’re middle aged and they are country girls. \n  \nWith over 50 sold out shows to their credit the girls have performed to packed houses at Melbourne International Comedy Festival\, Sydney Comedy Festival’s Enmore Theatre\, Adelaide Fringe and Perth Festival\, as well as taking their comedy stylings to halls\, pubs\, clubs and theatres around the country.  And now it’s Caboolture’s turn with Women Like Us performing at the Caboolture Sports Club on Friday 13 October. \n  \nWomen Like Us is two hours of stand up comedy – an hour a piece. This isn’t your regular stand up comedy show. This is as one review described it ‘a two tena pad show’. These are untold laugh out loud women’s stories\, smack bang centre stage. \n  \nSmall town showgirls\, there are few sacred cows that Briggs and Nolan shy away from milking\, with seven children and thirty five years stage time between them\, their ‘failure to parent’ is the focus of their material\, along with the beauty industry\, getting older\, getting fatter\, strange surgeries\, weird TV shows\, obsessions\, frustrations\, and at the end of the day\, who unpacks the dishwasher. \nMandy Nolan is a columnist for the Byron Shire Echo\, and writes regularly for Mamamia. She has appeared on ABC’s Q&A\, SBS’s Mums The Word & About Women and is in demand as a corporate and club performer around the country. Ellen Briggs is a national Finalist for RAW comedy and winner of Foxtel Comedy Channel’s Be A Comedian. \nPerforming in the sold out Up Front showcase at Melbourne Comedy Festival at Melbourne Town Hall\, these two were clearly the comedy picks of the night. One reviewer raved ‘Two totally relatable ladies who hit the nail on the head of charismatic female comedy. Prepare yourself to be hunched over in hysterics!’ \nEllen Briggs never intended to be a comedian. She just wanted to write a book. That’s why just over a decade ago she enrolled in Mandy’s stand up comedy class. ‘If the sole purpose of teaching over 1000 people was just to get someone with Ellen’s talent and ability up on the stage\, it was well worth it. I’d hate to think what would have become of her if she hadn’t found her feet as a comedian. She just had too many stories to waste on her Labrador. It’s a real privilege to share the stage with someone who is just getting better and better with every show. She’s a knock out.’ \n  \nWomen Like Us is a riot. Audiences have complained of aching stomach muscles\, sore jaws\, and at one show a woman actually injured herself when she laughed so much she slipped from her chair onto the floor! \n  \n‘We want to make you laugh\, but most of all we want you to go home feeling good about yourself. Women spend too much time not liking themselves\, beating themselves up for being too old\, too fat\, a bad parent\, a terrible cook\, but we just say\, hey\, its what makes us human! Celebrate Your Imperfection!’ \n  \n  \n  \nFriday 13 October \nDoors 7pm. Show 8pm. \nTix $30 \nOnline at cabsports.com.au \nEnquiries to 0754979711

SUMMARY:Preparing for the Ban on Bags and Cash for Containers Plan Forum – Thursday 19 October 2017
DESCRIPTION:With a planned introduction of a Container Refund Scheme and plastic bag ban in Queensland scheduled for July 2018\, Andrew Powell (Member for Glass House) is hosting a forum for local community organisations to explain the benefits of these measures and how to prepare for them. \n  \n‘As a community we must take steps towards more sustainable and environmentally responsible lifestyles.  Littering and waste should be a thing of the past and these measures are a great step in the right direction\, promising to not only reduce these problems\, but also create new business   opportunities in collection and recycling. \n  \n‘Most importantly these initiatives will provide fundraising opportunities for charities and community groups in the Glass House electorate and I am spreading the word early in the hope that these groups jump on board to reap rewards’ said Mr Powell. \n  \nThe forum will feature a presentation from the Boomerang Alliance\, a community organisation that is a member of the State Government Advisory Committee on the Container Refund Scheme. \n  \n‘Container refund schemes enjoy significant public support in Queensland\, although many don’t fully understand how they work’ said Toby Hutcheon\, Queensland Manager of the Boomerang Alliance. \n  \n‘We hope this forum will explain the system and most importantly the benefits that local community organisations could receive by participating in bottle and can collections.’ \n  \nThe presentation will also outline the proposed ban on single use plastic bags and feature a Q & A session to answer any community questions. \n  \nForum details: \nThursday 19 October 2017 \n5.30pm – 7.00pm \nGlasshouse Mountains Sports Club – 902 Steve Irwin Way\, Glass House Mountains \n  \n  \nFast Facts \n  \n\nIn Queensland\, an estimated 2.4 billion bottles are used every year. Most are wasted or littered\n\n  \n\nBeverage containers between 150 ml and 3 litres will attract a 10 cent refund on return\n\n  \n\nCollection points include Reverse Vending Machines at retail outlets\, public places and collection depots\n\n  \n\nContainers can still be put in kerbside recycling bins\n\n  \n\nCommunity groups who collect donated cans and bottles could share in an estimated $25 million in QLD per year\n\n  \n\nAbout 1 billion plastic bags are used in Queensland every year\, with about 16 million littered\n\n  \n\nCountries and places that have banned the bag report less plastic litter and a change of public habits towards reusable bags\n\n  \n\nThicker bags\, barrier bags and bin liners will still be available for use\n\n  \n\nThe best alternative to plastic shopping bags is to use your own reusable bag\n\n  \n  \nFor more information: 5435 2013

SUMMARY:Pumicestone State School Twilight Fete Friday October 27
DESCRIPTION:Pumicestone State School History \nPumicestone State School opened its doors at the beginning of this year and to celebrate our first wonderful year\, the school will be holding a twilight fete on Friday 27th October 2017. \nOur school opened as an Independent Public School. The school motto “Shaping our Tomorrow” underlines our focus on ensuring all students have what they need to be successful learners. \nOur Vision \nThis year we are creating our traditions for the future! \nOur vision is to create a tradition of engaging our whole community. Building and maintaining relationships between the staff\, students\, parents and the wider community will play a vital role in the student success and will develop a strong sense of belonging for us all. We will foster a parent community that places a high value upon education. \nOur Sponsorship Aim \nThe P & C Committee\, along with the Fundraising Committee\, are seeking assistance from our local community with sponsorship for the fete.  Through their generous sponsorship for this event\, their business details are exposed to a large number of families and patrons which creates a positive and mutually beneficial relationship. \nAs we are a new school\, there are many items that we need to fundraise for to expand on the basic facilities that have been provided for our children. We have two goals for our fundraising – air condition our Resource Centre and also help to fund a Chaplin. We sincerely thank all sponsors for their contribution\, which assists us in our fundraising goals. \nThe Event \nThe Twilight will be held on Friday 27th October 2017 from 3pm – 6:30pm \nIt will be an afternoon full of fun\, family and excitement. Memories will be made through food\, rides\, entertainment\, school and community exhibitions and displays. \nCheck out their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/PumicestoneStateSchool/ \nOrdering arm bands and passes www.ouronlinecanteen.com.au  \n

SUMMARY:Amber Lawrence + Travis Collins at the Dag Pub & Motel Friday October 27th
DESCRIPTION:Amber Lawrence & Travis Collins Our Backyard Tour at the Dag Hotel Motel Tickets\nFor the first time\, Golden Guitar winners Travis Collins and Amber Lawrence have collaborated on their debut EP called Our Backyard which was released on Friday August 4\, and to celebrate they will be heading out on tour from August 3 with tickets on sale now. \nBrimming with classics that tell quintessentially Australian stories\, the music and lyrics on the Matt Fell produced Our Backyard reflect the true Australian experience across life\, love and friendship. The first single from the EP is the title track. \nWith both artists coming off album releases\, Amber and Travis agree that now was the best time to combine their talents and dedicate their efforts to creating a collaborative and genuinely enjoyable album. “Now that our solo careers are cemented and we’ve both come off our own solo albums we can have a little fun and throw caution to the wind\,” says Amber. \nFriends since 2004 when they met at the College of Country Music (now Academy of Country Music)\, Amber and Travis wanted to create music that was more than simple duets but a true collaboration containing the essence of both artists; two distinct voices coming together. \nPrior to this release\, Amber has been on the road promoting her fifth studio album Happy Ever After which came out in September 2016. The two singles ‘Happy Ever After’ and ‘Cheers to the Girls’ were snapped up by country radio\, hitting the top chart radio and video playlists. One of the hardest working artists in the industry\, the 2015 & 2016 CMC Oz Female Artist of the Year and 2015 Golden Guitar Female Artist of the Year continues creating authentic and progressive country music that engages her fans like no other. \nTravis Collins\, a mainstay in the Australian music landscape\, has cemented his footprint as one of Australia’s best-loved country music artists. Earlier this year he took home not only his first Golden Guitar but a total of three: Male Artist of the Year\, Single of the Year (Just Another Girl) and APRA AMCOS Song of the Year (Call Me Crazy).  Two months later\, Travis was also awarded three CMC Awards: Australian Video of the Year\, Male Artist of the Year\, and CMC Oz Artist of the Year. As well-known for his masterful guitar playing and powerhouse vocals as he is for his depth of song-writing and high energy live performances\, Travis continues to go from strength to strength with his most recent album Hard Light producing three #1 songs and charting in the ARIA top 20 all-genre charts. \nThursday 26 October Warwick RSL Memorial Club \nFriday 27 October Dag Pub & Motel – D’Aguilar \nSaturday 28 October Hamilton Hotel \nSunday 29 October Mary’s Commercial Hotel – Dalby \nFriday 3 November  Young Services Club \nSunday 5 November The Oaks Hotel – Illawarra \nFriday 24 November Windsor RSL \nhttp://www.amberlawrence.com.au     www.traviscollins.com.au \n
