We will foster a parent community that places a high value upon education. \nOur Sponsorship Aim \nThe P & C Committee\, along with the Fundraising Committee\, are seeking assistance from our local community with sponsorship for the fete.  Through their generous sponsorship for this event\, their business details are exposed to a large number of families and patrons which creates a positive and mutually beneficial relationship. \nAs we are a new school\, there are many items that we need to fundraise for to expand on the basic facilities that have been provided for our children. We have two goals for our fundraising – air condition our Resource Centre and also help to fund a Chaplin. DESCRIPTION:The Caboolture Cancer Support Group has its big day with a live outside broadcast from the Caboolture South Woolworths store as a way of raising awareness of cancer and those who have it\, been treated for it and have survived it with their stories being told to inspire others to join the fight against cancer. \nThis year Pink week starts on Monday October 23 and runs for the remainder of the week. \nRosemary Worthington will again host the live broadcast on Thursday October 26 and have interviews during the live show and chat with many notable guests live on air and there will be a sausage sizzle merchandise and plenty of people to help celebrate the success stories. \nCancer Council’s Pink Ribbon campaign aims to raise awareness about breast and gynaecological cancers\, as well as raise funds for prevention programs\, support services and vital cancer research. \nEvery day in Australia around 50 women are diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer. DESCRIPTION:With a planned introduction of a Container Refund Scheme and plastic bag ban in Queensland scheduled for July 2018\, Andrew Powell (Member for Glass House) is hosting a forum for local community organisations to explain the benefits of these measures and how to prepare for them. \n  \n‘As a community we must take steps towards more sustainable and environmentally responsible lifestyles.  Littering and waste should be a thing of the past and these measures are a great step in the right direction\, promising to not only reduce these problems\, but also create new business   opportunities in collection and recycling. \n  \n‘Most importantly these initiatives will provide fundraising opportunities for charities and community groups in the Glass House electorate and I am spreading the word early in the hope that these groups jump on board to reap rewards’ said Mr Powell. \n  \nThe forum will feature a presentation from the Boomerang Alliance\, a community organisation that is a member of the State Government Advisory Committee on the Container Refund Scheme. \n  \n‘Container refund schemes enjoy significant public support in Queensland\, although many don’t fully understand how they work’ said Toby Hutcheon\, Queensland Manager of the Boomerang Alliance. \n  \n‘We hope this forum will explain the system and most importantly the benefits that local community organisations could receive by participating in bottle and can collections.’ \n  \nThe presentation will also outline the proposed ban on single use plastic bags and feature a Q & A session to answer any community questions. \n  \nForum details: \nThursday 19 October 2017 \n5.30pm – 7.00pm \nGlasshouse Mountains Sports Club – 902 Steve Irwin Way\, Glass House Mountains \n  \n  \nFast Facts \n  \n\nIn Queensland\, an estimated 2.4 billion bottles are used every year. These are untold laugh out loud women’s stories\, smack bang centre stage. \n  \nSmall town showgirls\, there are few sacred cows that Briggs and Nolan shy away from milking\, with seven children and thirty five years stage time between them\, their ‘failure to parent’ is the focus of their material\, along with the beauty industry\, getting older\, getting fatter\, strange surgeries\, weird TV shows\, obsessions\, frustrations\, and at the end of the day\, who unpacks the dishwasher. \nMandy Nolan is a columnist for the Byron Shire Echo\, and writes regularly for Mamamia. She has appeared on ABC’s Q&A\, SBS’s Mums The Word & About Women and is in demand as a corporate and club performer around the country. Ellen Briggs is a national Finalist for RAW comedy and winner of Foxtel Comedy Channel’s Be A Comedian. \nPerforming in the sold out Up Front showcase at Melbourne Comedy Festival at Melbourne Town Hall\, these two were clearly the comedy picks of the night. And in 2017\, Caboolture Disability Support Network and our own local Radio Station 101.5fm have partnered to give our community an event that is truly unique throughout Queensland with presenters from Government\, NDIA\, Community groups\, Qld Police Service and others. \nPlease note if you would like to be involved in the Expo but not stay until the end of the Festival you can apply for an Expo Site which runs from 10am until 4.30pm. \nPlease note: Due to safety factors No vehicles are to be moved within the event grounds during those times. \nThe Expo: Is for Community Organisations\, Not-for-Profits\, Government Sectors and relevant Commercial Enterprises who are all welcomed to exhibit their service and be involved. The expo commences at 10am and finishes at 4.30pm. DESCRIPTION:Research finds children spend too much time indoors\, less time outdoors –  Schools and parents unite to host the first Australian Outdoor Classroom Day  \n 80% of parents are worried their children are not equipped with the skills they need for the future \n85% of children spend less than two hours playing outside each day \n7 in 10 parents face challenges in getting their children to play outdoors But both kids and parents want more real outdoor play \n August 7th 2017: Aussie primary school kids are not getting enough unstructured outdoor play and are at risk of lacking fundamental ‘success skills’ to overcome and adapt to challenges. \nEvery day\, an overwhelming number of Australian children (85%[1]) spend less than two hours play outside – more than a third (36%) less than previous generations[2]\, according to the OMO Dirt is Good Survey. \nParents and educators are increasingly focused on educational attainment\, skills development and structured activities that promote achievement. While these are important\, ‘success skills’ such as adaptability\, resilience\, creativity and problem solving cannot be learned in the classroom\, but through hands-on\, real life experiences. \nThe research found almost three-quarters (73%) of parents admit that they face huge challenges in getting their children to play outdoors and 80% are worried that their children will not be equipped with the skills they’ll need for the future. \nWhen asked what they value most about their play time\, Aussie primary school kids ranked their iPad or games console (32%) as the things that they enjoy most about their day – more so than outdoor play with friends (25%). With screens outweighing play\, the lack of preparedness for children and the future is at real risk. \nHowever\, the majority of parents (78%) and kids (93%) say they would like more classes to take place outdoors.  \nTo help address the decline in outdoor play\, parents and teachers in Australia are rallying together for the nation’s inaugural Outdoor Classroom Day on 7 September 2017\, brought together by Nature Play and powered by OMO as part of the Dirt is Good Campaign. \nOutdoor Classroom Day is a global movement that sees millions of educators celebrating the benefits of both outdoor play and learning.  Across the world over 1.1 million children in 10\,085 schools are involved and enjoying playing and learning outside the classroom. \nOver 70\,000 Aussie kids\, in almost 900 schools\, have signed up for the day\, which shows the scale\, commitment and enthusiasm from Aussie parents\, kids and teachers. \nGriffin Longley\, CEO\, Nature Play said\, “Quite simply\, if children don’t get enough play it can get in the way of them being equipped for the future. \n“Real play helps kids build creativity\, social resilience\, fine and gross motor skills and perseverance[3]) – which are fundamental skills for flourishing in a fast-changing world. \n“Play helps cultivate the ability for children to confront\, tackle and overcome difficult situations and adapt to challenges and\, sometimes\, failures[4]. Through this\, kids are able to develop self-confidence and become more sensitive to the needs of others[5]. \n“These are clearly hugely beneficial skills that children need to master and own for both their todays and their tomorrows\, he said. \nThe virtues of unstructured outdoor play are becoming hugely underrated which urgently needs to be addressed\, especially as only a small proportion of Australian teachers have incorporated regular outdoors time into their classes. Nearly 30% of teachers spend no class time outside and another 30% spend less than 15 minutes outside every week[6]. \nIt seems that the main barriers to outdoor play during the school week are the lack of time between attending daytime classes and participating in after school activities (42%)\, in addition to kids just not being that bothered about playing outside (25%). \n“We’re calling on teachers and parents to get involved in Australia’s first Outdoor Classroom Day on Thursday\, 7th September 2017. Whether that’s by encouraging your child’s school to sign-up to taking a class outdoors\, everyone can do something to make sure Australia’s children reap the benefits of playing and learning outdoors not only on the 7th September\, but every day\,” Longley added. \nCath Prisk\, Outdoor Classroom Day Campaigns Director\, says “Changes in the world and in children’s time have had a negative impact on their access to real play. The ‘screen-time’ generation are at risk of not developing the essential skills they need now and in the future if they are opting to play on their iPads rather than play outdoors with friends. \n“Real play time is free and has significant benefits for children’s development which is why the action for parents and teachers is clear.
