Then roll up your sleeves and get involved in the nation’s biggest working bee – Clean Up Australia Day 2019! \n  \n“Great results happen when there’s a collective effort to make a positive change\,” Mayor Allan Sutherland said. \n  \n“Last year we were the first Council in South East Queensland ban the use of single-use plastic straws at council-operated venues and events\, this year we want to continue the green theme. \n  \n“So this year we’re hoping to see a record crowd\, of all ages\, volunteer to help clean up the Moreton Bay Region on Sunday 3 March. \n  \n“Nine sites are already registered for Clean-Up Australia Day from Albany Creek to Redcliffe\, Burpengary and Beachmere. \n  \n“You can even nominate a site to be cleaned up by heading to Clean Up Australia Day’s website\, but the key to success is in convincing friends and family to get involved with you. \n  \n“Locals collected an impressive 19.6 tonnes of litter from local parks\, beaches and creeks last year\, about a third of which was able to be recycled. \n  \n“More than 133 sites were registered in the region last year – we’d love to break this record\, so Council’s already registered crews on to provide additional garbage bags and come through after the clean up to collect the rubbish.” \n  \nCouncil’s Asset Construction & Maintenance Spokesperson\, Councillor Adam Hain said while Clean Up Australia Day was a great opportunity to ensure the Moreton Bay Region was looking its best\, it was also a chance to raise awareness about the damaging effects of litter. \n  \n“It is unknown how long plastics will take to completely degrade\, with estimates that a shopping bag takes 20 years to disintegrate and harder plastics potentially never disappearing from our environment\,” said Cr Hain. \n  \n“There’s no excuse for littering in this day and age – Council provides waste bins in public places\, we coordinate a weekly waste collection service from local homes and offer free tipping for residents at local waste facilities. \n  \n“Last year alone Moreton Bay Region residents helped recycle more than 34\,000 tonnes of kerbside waste\, 1\,600 tonnes of reusable items were sold at council’s Treasure Markets\, 22 tonnes of office paper and more than 238\,000 tonnes recovered at Council’s 12 waste management facilities\, saving vital resources from ending up in landfill. \n  \n“Clean Up Australia Day is a really great way to bring our region together and help protect and improve our natural environment\, so future generations can continue to enjoy the healthy\, outdoor lifestyle we know and love about Moreton Bay.” \n  \nFor more information on how to register go to www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/join-a-clean-up or head to www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/cleanup/

DESCRIPTION:Museums & Galleries of NSW is proud to present one of Australia’s most playfully imaginative exhibitions\, Soft Core\, at Caboolture Regional Art Gallery from 15 February to 20 April 2019.  \n  \nFrom Michael Parekowhai’s huge inflatable bunny to Simon Yates’ foam sculptures and Koji Ryui’s animated Have a Nice Day clay-filled shopping bags\, Soft Core brings together a colourfully provocative collection of works from 12 leading Australian and international artists\, in an exploration of the meaning of “softness”. \n  \nOriginally presented at Sydney’s Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in 2016 Soft Core has proven enduringly popular with audiences of all ages and backgrounds\, as it makes its way around the country\, as part of Museums & Galleries of NSW’s federal government funded national tour. \n  \nCurated by Sydney’s Micheal Do\, the exhibition includes works by US artist Tony Oursler and New Zealand’s Michael Parekowhai\, alongside Australian artists Tully Arnot Mikala Dwyer\, Tully Moore\, Patricia Piccinini\, Todd Robinson\, Koji Ryui\, Kathy Temin\, Louise Weaver\, Simon Yates and Paul Yore. \n  \nEntry is free and in conjunction with the show the Gallery will be offering free guided tours\, workshops\, babies + carers sessions and special activities exploring the themes of the exhibition. \n  \nEveryone is welcome to attend the opening day celebrations on Saturday February 16 from 10am to 2pm\, including live music\, hands-on sculpture workshops\, soft-play activities for under 3s\, a meet and greet with special guest exhibition curator Michael Do\, and much more. \n  \nIn March\, the Gallery will be offering workshops and events with artists Tully Arnot and Paul Yore and during the April school holidays family events will include a special visit by artist Koji Ryui\, a “Doll Transformation” workshop with Brisbane artist Simone Eisler\, a pizza & play night and artist talks. \n  \nCaboolture Regional Art Gallery will launch its first Professional Educator Series to accompany Soft Core. \n  \nThis series is aimed at educators in the Moreton Bay region from early childhood right up to tertiary level.
