SUMMARY:Rotary Club of Kippa-ring - North Lakes and Pine Rivers Presents "Lift The Lid Walk" Sunday 15th Nov
DESCRIPTION:The Rotary Clubs of Kippa-Ring North Lakes and Pine Rivers\, will come together for the first time on Sunday\, November 15th\, 2020\, to stage the inaugural\, LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health. \n  \nWith a new name and new look\, the “LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health” will be the first in an exciting new series hosted by Australian Rotary Health (ARH) and Rotary District clubs around the country. \n  \nThe original “WALK FOR MENTAL HEALTH” format was the brainchild of passionate mental health advocate Vicki Stewart\, a Past President and long-time member of the Rotary Club of Mooloolaba. \n  \n“Vicki wanted to raise funds for mental illness research and the vital role it plays in understanding and treating complex mental health issues\,” says Paul Robins\, past President of Mooloolaba Rotary and Chairman of the Steering Committee. “She also wants to break down the barriers around mental illness so that people will be more comfortable discussing it and seeking help for their mental health problems\,” he added. \n  \n“After four successful years holding the event and raising more than $35\,000 for Australian Rotary Health\, we are delighted to share its evolution in 2020 into the “LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health. \nHowever\, it is not all about the money\, although we do need that for the research\, at this point in time\, it is so much more important to have the conversation and break down the social stigma of mental health\, as it affects so many people.” said\, Vicki. \n  \nThe walk and talk format is deliberately not a race\, but an opportunity to get locals together to raise awareness of the serious mental health issues we face in all areas of our communities\, schools\, homes\, and workplaces. \n  \nNow more than ever\, we need to break down the stigma that continues to plague our society so that people are more comfortable discussing and seeking help for their mental health issues. As the sole beneficiary\, 100% of funds raised from the LIFT THE LID WALKS will support vital Australian Rotary Health research. \n  \nARH is a national\, not-for-profit organisation that funds health research and provides community education about health issues. The organisation supports work on a broad range of health problems but specialises in mental health. They are one of the largest independent funders of mental illness research over the past two decades in Australia. Funding more than $36 million in projects\, ARH funded research has played a founding role in establishing vital programs such as teen Mental health First Aid (tMHFA) and Cool Kids. \n  \nAustralian Rotary Health CEO\, Joy Gillett OAM\, said\, “this is a great initiative that originated in Mooloolaba and we are so excited to see it grow. It gives the opportunity for every Rotary Club in Australia to host a community walk – to create awareness of mental health\, to support Australian Rotary Health\, and to raise much-needed funds for research.” \n  \nThe inaugural LIFT THE LID WALK commences at 8am from Lake Eden\, Northlakes. The entry fee is $30\, and early bird entries before November 2nd includes a free t-shirt\, with kids 15 and under walking free and dogs most welcome! \n  \nEvent Manger Colleen Caruana said\, “We are thrilled to be launching this wonderful initiative. We have had to make a few changes to ensure we deliver a COVID safe event for our community. We are very passionate about and early sponsorship support from our local business community has been overwhelming.” \n  \nParticipant numbers are restricted to 1\,000\, so you need to get in early to secure your spot and bring your own water bottle on the day. \n  \nAs the events commence rolling out nationally\, confirmed new locations for Queensland also include Bribie Island on November 22nd\, with dates still to be announced for Mackay\, Rockhampton\, Woolloongabba\, and Cairns. Events will be supported by media partners Channel 7 and local media outlets. The new format will also feature local profiles in ambassador and MC roles\, and we will be announcing our local ambassadors shortly. \n  \nTo find out more about how you can get involved or register for this event\, visit www.liftthelidwalk.com.au/northlakes \nFor more information on Australian Rotary Health\, visit  https://australianrotaryhealth.org.au/

SUMMARY:Kutlu Tören means happy ceremony! at the Abbey Museum November 14 from 1 pm
DESCRIPTION:KUTLU TÖREN means happy ceremony!  We are so pleased to invite you to join us for a Kutlu Tören right here at Abbeystowe in just a few weeks time!  So what’s it all about? \nBuilding a fountain was seen as an act of piety which also demonstrates the social\, economic and political standing of the person who commissioned the fountain. The fountain was not only for humans but also for animals\, including stray cats and dogs allowing them access to water whenever needed. \nDuring our lockdown for COVID-19 the Sultan of Janissary Barracks commissioned such a fountain for Abbeystowe. To celebrate its completion\, we are marking the occasion with a traditional Kutlu Tören. \nThe full afternoon program includes Turkish Oil wrestling\, belly dancing\, archery demonstration and traditional handwashing plus a Turkish Style Picnic Box to nibble on as you celebrate the occasion. \nBookings are essential!  Click through and secure your spot!

SUMMARY:BPW Caboolture Breakfast : Friday Nov 6 Angela Koning Overcoming Overwhelm in Leadership
DESCRIPTION:Join us for breakfast on November 6 when BPW Caboolture presents Angela Koning “Overcoming Overwhelm in Leadership“\nPresentation Topic: Overcoming Overwhelm in Leadership \nIf you are struggling under the weight of perceived responsibilities and outputs in your leadership role\, you are not alone. Overwhelm is an extremely common experience for today’s leaders and means that you are likely: \nNot operating at the right level \nHave you taken on too many low-value tasks that your team could be doing? If so\, as well as making your own life harder\, you are also not getting value for money out of your team. You need to get back to working at the leadership level! \nNot getting clear about priorities \nIf you are not racking\, stacking and engaging your team in conversations about priorities and how they are evolving then\, chances are\, everything seems like a priority to both you and your team. #chaos \nNot using the talents of your team effectively \nAre you guilty of ‘rescuing’ your team from hard tasks instead of developing them to handle more complex work? Chances are they are capable and if you play it right\, they will relish the increased responsibility. \nAngela will teach you how to map your role quickly and easily\, help you to make immediate\, easy decisions to ensure you’re only investing your precious time on the highest value\, revenue-generating tasks\, and work your way back into flow and taking charge as a leader. \nGet Tickets at here.

SUMMARY:Salvation Army Caboolture Moneycare Day as part of Anti-Poverty Week on Wednesday 14 October
DESCRIPTION:This year\, during ‘Anti-Poverty Week’ (October 11-17)\, The Salvation Army’s Moneycare is running events across the nation to help everyday Aussies get on top of their finances. \nAs part of Anti-Poverty Week\, Wednesday October 14 is The Salvos National ‘Moneycare Day’. Jillian McKinlay\, a Salvation Army’s Moneycare financial counsellor in Caboolture\, is encouraging anyone looking to improve their financial situation to participate in a local event on Wednesday October 14 at The Salvation Army Caboolture – cnr Lower King and Dux St\, Caboolture. \nCaboolture’s Moneycare Day event will involve launching Moneycare Queensland’s Hope Through COVID-19 at the Salconnect site and Caboolture Family Store. Moneycare Caboolture will be in the community with resources about how to ask that difficult question\, “Are you ok\, financially?” and how to get support from a financial counsellor. \nThe theme of this year’s event will be ‘Disasters don’t Discriminate’\, with The Salvos seeing the devastating financial impacts of the year that has been\, from bushfires to the economic turmoil of COVID-19. \n“We have seen in the past 12 months the wide-ranging impacts that these disasters have had. They haven’t only impacted people in the most vulnerable circumstances in society but have reached people who never thought that they would ever find themselves in financial hardship. The Salvation Army is encouraging anyone who needs a hand with their finances to get help early\, and reach out to a Moneycare financial counsellor\,” Jillian McKinlay said. \nIn an average year\, The Salvos Moneycare offers services to over 13\,000 people\, helping with money management\, support\, advocacy and debt help*. \nPeople who have come to Moneycare have been able to significantly improve their ability to manage their debt and meet living expenses as well as improve their personal well-being and mental health. \nJillian McKinlay said\, “This year\, particularly as government subsidies begin to scale back and bank and rental deferrals end\, The Salvation Army is anticipating a soaring demand to present to our services\, including Moneycare. This is why it is so important to take action early”. \n“Moneycare financial counsellors can be powerful advocates on your behalf if you have unmanageable debt. Reach out to Moneycare. We are here to help\,” Jillian McKinlay added. \nReach out for help early. For more information or to contact The Salvation Army’s free and confidential Moneycare service\, please visit: www.salvationarmy.org.au/antipovertyweek or call the Moneycare intake service line: 1800 722 363

SUMMARY:BPW Caboolture Breakfast : Personal Resilience for Empowered Leadership with Romecca Sawers
DESCRIPTION:Where do we go for inspiration to keep on going and to achieve what we desire in our personal and professional lives? \nAll that we really need is already within us. Do you believe this to be true? \nLet’s take a moment to reflect on ourselves\, our lives\, and how far we have come\, what we have learned\, and where we are heading. Are we flexible\, calm and open or are we controlled by worry\, and fear\, that closes us off to opportunities in areas of our lives ? \nIn her presentation\, Romecca will help us identify the following: \n\nWhere to from here\nWhat we need to focus on to stay on track\nPositive practices for confident decision making\nLessons from having no patience\n\n\nA new wave of inspiration is here – it’s raw\, it’s impactful and it’s bound to give you a new perspective on life. \nThroughout her youth\, Romecca Sawers was subject to traumatic and cruel abuse. What should have been an enjoyable childhood was overthrown by a generational cycle of physical\, mental and emotional abuse. But\, through self-love\, perseverance and professional guidance\, Romecca was able to break-free and initiative fulfilment in her journey through life. \nToday\, Romecca supports survivors of childhood sexual abuse trauma to healing through Meant To Rise\, the charity she founded in 2018. Through authentic speaking\, coaching and written word\, she is actively enlightening the greater community about proven methods for improving wellness and achieving greatness on purpose. It’s not a sob story; it’s a first-hand account detailing the uplifting transition from victim\, to survivor\, to advocate. \nBeing both a wife and mother has opened Romecca to the joys and often challenging reality of family life\, and it also allows her to provide real-world\, practical advice that suits the livelihoods of the regular community. \nRomecca has also recently released her first novel\, Because I Was Abused\, which offers an insight to her mental state during and after her childhood trauma. A sense of inspiring courage and empowerment is prevalent throughout the recount. \nBecause I Was Abused has been noted as a must-read for anyone wanting to better their understanding of child abuse and the long-term effects it has on the child victims. Additionally\, it demonstrates how recovery and happiness is possible. \nSee you on October 2 for this inspirational presentation.
