SUMMARY:Beachmere Australia Day and Picnic in the Park January 26
DESCRIPTION:What better way to celebrate Australia Day than a Picnic in a Park?  It’s even better when the park is Clayton Park a short walk from anywhere in Beachmere. \nAdd entertainment\, lots of shady trees\, a BBQ\, ice cream and coffee and you have the very best close to home – no jam packed roads or searching for a carpark. \nBeachmere Area Network Group (BANG) organised the Picnic in the Park last year as an event to raise funds for two and four legged bush fire victims.  It was warmly welcomed and supported ensuring the Picnic was held again this year\, with any funds raised supporting local wildlife charities. \nBANG has a huge program of events already planned for the new year with the Australia Day\, Picnic in the Park just the first in it’s “Celebration of Community” 2021 program. \nJoin the fun in the park with activities and games\, entertainment and more from 11am till 3pm in Clayton Park\, Beachmere. \nEmail info@bang.org.au or www.bang.org.au for more information.

SUMMARY:Stick Together - collaborative weaving installation at the Caboolture Hub Dec 7 to Dec 21
DESCRIPTION:Stick Together is a collaborative weaving installation created by more than 150 community members and local artist Mel Brady during COVID. \nHosted by Creative Alliance Queensland\, Moreton Bay Regional Council and Regional Arts Services Network – RASN\n\n\nThe installation will be on display at the Caboolture Hub throughout December and you can still be part of the fun.\nJoin the FREE Workshops and add your weaving to the installation: \n10am – 12pm Tuesday 15th December\n10am – 12pm Thursday 17th December\n—–\nMore Information about the Project \nDuring COVID we called on communities\, across the South-East Queensland North (SEQN) region\, to Stick Together as part of a collaborative arts project run by Caboolture-based artist Mel Brady. \nStick Together participants were posted materials and then took part in a series of online workshops in Cross Stick Weaving. Whilst the activity itself could be seen as simple\, the idea was to keep communities connected through regular craft sessions and conversations. \nParticipants were asked to send their final creations back to CAA where we have been collecting them up for a collaborative artwork. Hundreds of individuals\, groups and families across SEQN took part in the project during lockdown and now we are ready to share what we’ve all created. \nStick Together was supported as part of Creative Arts Alliance’s Craft Connect initiative which supported online and at home activities for SEQN communities during COVID. \nCraft Connect is part of our SEQN RASN program funded by Arts Queensland.

SUMMARY:Rotary Club of Kippa-ring - North Lakes and Pine Rivers Presents "Lift The Lid Walk" Sunday 15th Nov
DESCRIPTION:The Rotary Clubs of Kippa-Ring North Lakes and Pine Rivers\, will come together for the first time on Sunday\, November 15th\, 2020\, to stage the inaugural\, LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health. \n  \nWith a new name and new look\, the “LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health” will be the first in an exciting new series hosted by Australian Rotary Health (ARH) and Rotary District clubs around the country. \n  \nThe original “WALK FOR MENTAL HEALTH” format was the brainchild of passionate mental health advocate Vicki Stewart\, a Past President and long-time member of the Rotary Club of Mooloolaba. \n  \n“Vicki wanted to raise funds for mental illness research and the vital role it plays in understanding and treating complex mental health issues\,” says Paul Robins\, past President of Mooloolaba Rotary and Chairman of the Steering Committee. “She also wants to break down the barriers around mental illness so that people will be more comfortable discussing it and seeking help for their mental health problems\,” he added. \n  \n“After four successful years holding the event and raising more than $35\,000 for Australian Rotary Health\, we are delighted to share its evolution in 2020 into the “LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health. \nHowever\, it is not all about the money\, although we do need that for the research\, at this point in time\, it is so much more important to have the conversation and break down the social stigma of mental health\, as it affects so many people.” said\, Vicki. \n  \nThe walk and talk format is deliberately not a race\, but an opportunity to get locals together to raise awareness of the serious mental health issues we face in all areas of our communities\, schools\, homes\, and workplaces. \n  \nNow more than ever\, we need to break down the stigma that continues to plague our society so that people are more comfortable discussing and seeking help for their mental health issues. As the sole beneficiary\, 100% of funds raised from the LIFT THE LID WALKS will support vital Australian Rotary Health research. \n  \nARH is a national\, not-for-profit organisation that funds health research and provides community education about health issues. The organisation supports work on a broad range of health problems but specialises in mental health. They are one of the largest independent funders of mental illness research over the past two decades in Australia. Funding more than $36 million in projects\, ARH funded research has played a founding role in establishing vital programs such as teen Mental health First Aid (tMHFA) and Cool Kids. \n  \nAustralian Rotary Health CEO\, Joy Gillett OAM\, said\, “this is a great initiative that originated in Mooloolaba and we are so excited to see it grow. It gives the opportunity for every Rotary Club in Australia to host a community walk – to create awareness of mental health\, to support Australian Rotary Health\, and to raise much-needed funds for research.” \n  \nThe inaugural LIFT THE LID WALK commences at 8am from Lake Eden\, Northlakes. The entry fee is $30\, and early bird entries before November 2nd includes a free t-shirt\, with kids 15 and under walking free and dogs most welcome! \n  \nEvent Manger Colleen Caruana said\, “We are thrilled to be launching this wonderful initiative. We have had to make a few changes to ensure we deliver a COVID safe event for our community. We are very passionate about and early sponsorship support from our local business community has been overwhelming.” \n  \nParticipant numbers are restricted to 1\,000\, so you need to get in early to secure your spot and bring your own water bottle on the day. \n  \nAs the events commence rolling out nationally\, confirmed new locations for Queensland also include Bribie Island on November 22nd\, with dates still to be announced for Mackay\, Rockhampton\, Woolloongabba\, and Cairns. Events will be supported by media partners Channel 7 and local media outlets. The new format will also feature local profiles in ambassador and MC roles\, and we will be announcing our local ambassadors shortly. \n  \nTo find out more about how you can get involved or register for this event\, visit www.liftthelidwalk.com.au/northlakes \nFor more information on Australian Rotary Health\, visit  https://australianrotaryhealth.org.au/

SUMMARY:Kutlu Tören means happy ceremony! at the Abbey Museum November 14 from 1 pm
DESCRIPTION:KUTLU TÖREN means happy ceremony!  We are so pleased to invite you to join us for a Kutlu Tören right here at Abbeystowe in just a few weeks time!  So what’s it all about? \nBuilding a fountain was seen as an act of piety which also demonstrates the social\, economic and political standing of the person who commissioned the fountain. The fountain was not only for humans but also for animals\, including stray cats and dogs allowing them access to water whenever needed. \nDuring our lockdown for COVID-19 the Sultan of Janissary Barracks commissioned such a fountain for Abbeystowe. To celebrate its completion\, we are marking the occasion with a traditional Kutlu Tören. \nThe full afternoon program includes Turkish Oil wrestling\, belly dancing\, archery demonstration and traditional handwashing plus a Turkish Style Picnic Box to nibble on as you celebrate the occasion. \nBookings are essential!  Click through and secure your spot!
