SUMMARY:7 Sopranos Live Dayboro Community Hall Saturday 19 November
DESCRIPTION:The 7 Sopranos are Australia’s most exciting young female voices. \n\nThe 7 Sopranos were conceived in 2009 following an invitation to acclaimed opera singer Tarita Botsman to perform at a prestigious large-scale\, outdoor event at the iconic Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Utilising her operatic pedigree and industry connections developed from her career on the operatic stage\, Botsman called upon fellow singers to form a group that combined the voices of seven opera singers and their journey began. \nThe world class voices of the newly formed 7 Sopranos combined with such a unique backdrop had a huge impact and became an instant hit\, quickly followed by further worldwide appearances and a recording contract with ABC Music (a subsidiary of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation) which debuted at No 2 on the Aria Charts. \nWhat’s most striking about The 7 Sopranos\, (other than their glamour and style)\,  is their commanding stage presence and vocal prowess. With their refined vocal skills this operatic ensemble made up of seven strong\, talented women on stage makes show-stopping headlines wherever they go. They convert the inconvertible to the power and versatility of classically trained performers with their huge breadth of work covering everything from show tunes to musical theatre to contemporary songs. Their irresistible style\, personas and unique sound appeal to music lovers everywhere. \nNamed as “Australia’s most beautiful voices\,” the artists that form the ensemble are the kind of role models young girls should have: an ensemble of talented\, strong and passionate women doing what they love\, on their own terms. \nThe individual singing pedigree of each of the artists who make up The 7 Sopranos is impressive and world class: performers who are all graduates of Australia’s finest conservatories\, winners of Australia’s most prestigious singing competitions and solo artists from major opera companies and orchestras internationally. Each artist has trained for at least\, yep\, you guessed it\, seven years. Individually they are all impressive… collectively they form an outstanding world class ensemble. \nThe 7 Sopranos are real women with real voices\, voices that do not need to rely on microphones and amplification. They are just as comfortable in a huge 5\,000-seat arena as they are in an acoustic setting for 50. That is their calling card – incredible versatility and vocal quality of rare distinction. \nFrom Dubai to Dubbo\, The 7 Sopranos have clocked up hundreds of appearances across the globe. Reaching out to a new audience of music lovers\, they successfully straddle the divide between opera and mainstream music\, creating their own unique fusion of faithful classical traditions and techniques meshed with contemporary music\, enchanting new and enthusiastic audiences across the globe.  They continue their touring success across Australia and internationally: an accessible\, affordable\, living and breathing versatile all-female ensemble of breath-taking music makers. \n\nTickets available on line  www.the7sopranos.com  or phone 1300 762 545 \n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/the7sopranos/

DESCRIPTION:Moreton Bay Careers Expo\, “Opportunities for Me” is mainly targeting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community members including refugees and migrants with working visa’s and seeking employment opportunities.  Australians\, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island background individuals from the wider community are also welcome to participate. \n  \nThe Community Action for Multicultural Society (CAMS) Program\, one of the programs under the Caboolture Neighbourhood Centre\, created a needs analysis survey in 2015-2016. The outcome of the survey found employment was identified as the second highest problem for CALD community members; with the highest problem being the lack of English literacy and numeracy.  There are few opportunities for people from CALD backgrounds to learn about employment and job seeking processes. Challenges include: limited understanding of Australian Culture; English literacy and numeracy; assessment and recognition of overseas qualifications and experience; limited skills; limited understanding of employers and about what people from CALD backgrounds can contribute. \n  \nThese challenges cannot be overcome in a day however through this expo\, the aim is to bring it a little bit closer in helping people from CALD backgrounds gain employment and feel settled in their new home.  To assist in this process\, the expo will have a Jobs Board set up on the day displaying current job vacancies on offer from employers and employment agencies. \n  \nSTALL HOLDERS \nStall Holders will give the opportunity to provide information on different facets of employment sectors to expo attendees – may it be going back to study\, retrain\, do volunteer work\, apply for jobs\, own their own business or work in the community sector. The event is FREE and is a great way for attendees to gain knowledge and understanding of options available in a non-threatening environment. \n  \nEmployers and Employment Agencies – The expo will have a Jobs Board set up on the day displaying current job vacancies on offer.  Employers and Employment Agencies are invited to bring job vacancies along to the expo that can be added to the Jobs Board. \n  \nEXPO DIVISIONS \nEmployers and Employment Agencies – For jobs and employment opportunities \nVolunteer area – For volunteer job opportunities \nRegistered Training Organisations – For further education and training opportunities \nSupport Services – Information and support services available from community service providers \nChildren’s Retreat – Children’s entertainment and activities \nFood and Drink Vendors

SUMMARY:Beloved pup remembered to raise funds for cancer Brennan Park Bribie Island Saturday 29 October
DESCRIPTION:South East Queenslanders are being invited to gather to help raise awareness and funds for research into cancer in animals on a day inspired by the death of a much-loved dog. \nDuke was a Labrador Maremma Sheepdog cross\, who sadly passed away from an aggressive form of cancer called Histiocytic Sarcoma (HS)\, which is found in both animals and humans. \nHis parents\, Brooke and Clinton\, have decided to organise a fundraising event to support the not-for-profit research charity Australian Animal Cancer Foundation (AACF). \nDay for Duke will be held in Brennan Park on Bribie Island on Saturday 29 October from 10am to 4pm. There will be a range of activities for families and their pups\, including a dog washing and grooming parlour\, doggie boutiques and accessories\, obedience and agility school\, pet photography plus a jumping castle\, face painting\, raffles and much more.  Many local businesses have been eager to throw their support behind the event\, with Triple M’s Jamie Dunn and Agro attending. \nDr Rod Straw\, founder of the AACF\, says it is important to bring much needed attention to the prevalence of cancer in small animals.  “We treat hundreds of animals with cancer each year and with the help of The Foundation\, we can learn how to better manage and even cure cancer in pets\, which translates directly to benefit people\,” Dr Straw said. \nDuke had his leg amputated and underwent surgery and chemotherapy to remove his cancer. Unfortunately\, the cancer was too aggressive and soon returned as a mass in his abdomen. \nDuke’s mum\, Brooke\, says she wants other dog owners to know what warning signs to look for and be vigilant in recognising them\, after Duke was initially misdiagnosed from an occurring limp. \n“It doesn’t matter what age or breed your dog is\, cancer doesn’t discriminate. It can also metastasize at a much faster rate in dogs than humans\,” Brooke said.  In humans\, cancer kills 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men. The incidence is almost equal in dogs\, killing 50% of dogs over the age of 10 and 33% of those under. \nDuke’s parents intend for the event to become an annual occurrence\, providing long term support to the AACF and cancer research in animals and humans alike. \nMore information on the Australian Animal Cancer Foundation can be found at www.animalcancer.com.au. More information on Day for Duke can be found at www.facebook.com/dukeysfight

SUMMARY:Hann Family Fundraiser Saturday 22nd October at Morayfield East State School
DESCRIPTION:A fundraiser on Saturday 22nd October at Morayfield East State School. A community event whereby local businesses\, friends and family are involved in trying to raise money for this beautiful family. \nA reminder of the story of the Hann family: \nChristine Hann is a 31 year old mother of 3 children aged 8\, 6 and 17 months old. In April this year\, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer\, it was a huge shock to us all. Then after 4 months of harsh chemotherapy she started to develop excruciating headaches…after days of pain\, ICU and lots of tests\, on the 2nd of September she and her family were told that the cancer has spread to her brain and that she only has a matter of weeks left. \nChristine and Shaun moved up to Mt Isa from Morayfield in 2013\, but with family and friends still down here\, continued to visit often. Since the cancer Christine and her family have relocated back here for treatment etc. \nThere has been a gofundme page set up and a variety of fundraisers to help her and her family make important ‘bucket list’ memories and to try and create something substantial to support the family afterwards. \nOne of the features of our event is that Voice grand finalist Tash Lockhart has kindly offered to come and perform at the event.
