DESCRIPTION:QUT Health Clinics will again be conducting FREE health checks for children at QUT Caboolture Campus on Wednesday\, 5 July. \nStudents from QUT’s Faculty of Health will be providing screenings for children aged from Prep to Year 12\, including: \nfoot checks \nvision screening \ndietary and lunchbox advice \neducation and development assessments \nfun hands on activities for kids.\nQUT Health Clinics Manager\, Lisa Morgan said the popular annual school holiday activity delivers comprehensive health checks to the local community’s children. \n“If parents are concerned about their children’s reading progress\, fussy eating\, complaints of foot and leg pain or headaches\, it’s a great opportunity for early detection of issues or just to set their minds at ease.” \n“Coming into the second week of the school holidays\, kids are starting to get bored at home so it’s also a chance to get out of the house and get some healthy activity in the fresh air.  For example the foot checks will see children walking\, running and standing on one leg so that our Podiatry students and supervisors can check their gait and balance.” \n“Many kids find the vision screenings fascinating\, and we’ve also found that children love to talk about food and their likes and dislikes with our Nutrition and Dietetics students.” \n“Children will enjoy the energy our students bring to the day\, and we always include a few little take-home surprises to add to the fun.” \nThis FREE comprehensive screening event is on Wednesday 5 July 2017 at QUT Caboolture Campus\, Tallon Street\, Caboolture.  Free parking is available on campus. \nBookings are essential – please phone QUT Health Clinics on 07 3138 9777.

Our very special guest\, NHWQ Mascot Seymour will be present along with police officers\, police dog squad\, police motorbike\, maybe a surprise or two\, Crime Stoppers and Fire Brigade unit.  \nOn stage\, there will be entertainment by Wayne Holly Country Cabaret. All of these interactions and activities lead to a heightened sense of cultural diversity and respect throughout the wider community. \nAbout St Andrews Bribie Island Retreat and Recreation Centre \n We are a recently opened\, retreat & recreation centre\, located in a 5 hectare bushland setting on the ocean side of Bribie Island.\nOur prime purpose is to provide the means for youth & school groups and the wider community to facilitate educational & cultural development\, including leadership skills\, in a purpose designed 7 cabin camp with a large auditorium.\nWe include Panagia Theotokou Greek Orthodox church on site.\nEvery year\, on the first Sunday in July\, we host the Bribie Paniyiri (Greek Festival)\, to showcase our facility to the public\, and also to share the Greek culture through food\, dancing & music. The church is also showcased. \nQueensland has some uniquely Greek history.\n– Qld’s 1st Governor\, George Bowen’s wife was Greek – Lady Diamantina Bowen\n– Qld’s current Premier\, Annastacia Palaszczuk\, was married to a Greek….his first name is also George. \nAlso\, Greeks have introduced to the world many things\, many of which are embraced today \nDemocracy and Theatre\, which happen in Canberra \nThirdly\, 2 things that are directly related to modern and ancient Greece are occurring in South-east Queensland on Sunday\, July 2nd\, 2017. \nBoxing\, an event held in the Ancient Olympic Games in Greece in the Modern Olympics\, happens at Suncorp Stadium. \nAnd a Paniyiri \, or Greek Festival\, will be happening at Bribie Island \n The Bribie Paniyiri is as close to a traditional Greek village Paniyiri as being there….. Sunday June 25 the festival is open from 11am – 4pm after which the floral displays will be auctioned off. \nJoan Wilkie \, renowned pianist in the Morning Melodies at The Redcliffe Cultural Centre will be given a FREE performance on  June 23\, the Friday afternoon from 2-3pm and Robert Holt will be paying the Collins pipe organ from 12noon on Saturday June 24 \n“Celebrating the Peninsula-Showcasing its Icons” will depict local landmarks and scenery in floral installations and displays\, paintings by artists from Redcliffe Art Society and pottery by the Redcliffe Pottery group. \nThe local beaches and red cliffs\, the famous Gayundah wreck\, the bridges and jetties as well as the Botanic gardens\, ANZAC Place tribute\, our fishing and boating lifestyle and THE Dolphins “kiddy” corner will be represented in structural form\, artistic design and many\, many flowers. To explain further would give too much away!! To complement each installation\, paintings will also depict Redcliffe\, including paintings of the late Sandra Hines\, Heather Delaney and Alex Enborisoff to name a few well know local artists. \nSome artists will be setting up demonstration tables and all art work will be for sale\, as are cards with photographs of our peninsula for only $1 each. \nOf course\, there are raffles\, an oil by renowned local artist Gwynneth Boyce and a framed embroidery of native flowers of State emblems.
