The Bribie Island Paniyiri is an event which facilitates a celebration of cultural diversity, with a key focus on Greek culture, but also in collaboration and presentation with people from a variety of backgrounds throughout the regional community.
The event promotes cohesion and harmony with people from a diverse range of cultures, through a spirit of happiness, celebration & understanding in activities such as Cooking, Dancing, Music and family entertainment.
An opportunity is promoted for all members of the local and regional community to participate in a broad range of activities which advocate multiculturalism, both in development & organisation prior to the event, and also through participation / presentation on the day. All of these interactions and activities lead to a heightened sense of cultural diversity and respect throughout the wider community.

About St Andrews Bribie Island Retreat and Recreation Centre

We are a recently opened, retreat & recreation centre, located in a 5 hectare bushland setting on the ocean side of Bribie Island.
Our prime purpose is to provide the means for youth & school groups and the wider community to facilitate educational & cultural development, including leadership skills, in a purpose designed 7 cabin camp with a large auditorium.
We include Panagia Theotokou Greek Orthodox church on site.
Every year, on the first Sunday in July, we host the Bribie Paniyiri (Greek Festival), to showcase our facility to the public, and also to share the Greek culture through food, dancing & music. The church is also showcased.

Queensland has some uniquely Greek history.
– Qld’s 1st Governor, George Bowen’s wife was Greek – Lady Diamantina Bowen
– Qld’s current Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, was married to a Greek….his first name is also George.

Also, Greeks have introduced to the world many things, many of which are embraced today
Democracy and Theatre, which happen in Canberra

Thirdly, 2 things that are directly related to modern and ancient Greece are occurring in South-east Queensland on Sunday, July 2nd, 2017.

Boxing, an event held in the Ancient Olympic Games in Greece in the Modern Olympics, happens at Suncorp Stadium.

And a Paniyiri , or Greek Festival, will be happening at Bribie Island

The Bribie Paniyiri is as close to a traditional Greek village Paniyiri as being there….. OPA !!!!

Also, where else in the world would you see a Greek church on an island …..

See you there…. Sunday, July 2, 2017  – 2-12 Third Avenue, Woorim, Bribie Island
