October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October 1, 2017 - October 31, 2017
Many of us find excuses when it comes to making appointments for our own health checks. How many times have you heard yourself say, “I just don’t have the time” or “I’ll do it next week”?
If there is one thing you should do for yourself in the month of October, it’s make an appointment to have a breastscreen.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a timely reminder for eligible women to take advantage of the free BreastScreen Queensland Program.
Medical Director of BreastScreen Queensland Brisbane Northside, Dr Jane Brazier, said women of all ages need to be breast aware. This means getting to know the normal look and feel of your breasts.
“If you notice any change in or around the breast it is important to contact your GP without delay,” she said.
Dr Brazier said all BreastScreen Queensland radiographers are women and a doctor’s referral was not needed for this free service.
A breastscreen is strongly recommended every two years for women aged between 50 and 74, as this is the age group where the benefits of screening are most evident, however women in their 40s or 75 years and over are also eligible to attend.
Brisbane Northside services are available at Chermside, Brisbane City, Keperra, Kippa-Ring, North Lakes and Indooroopilly.
Make the time for yourself – phone 13 20 50 for your free breastscreen today or book online at www.breastscreen.qld.gov.au.
