National State Emergency Service (SES) Week (15 – 23 October)

With more than 6,000 active SES volunteers across Queensland, most of us have come into contact with the men and women in orange at some stage.
There’s half a million reasons to say thank you this SES Week.
Last financial year, SES volunteers from around the state gave more than 500,000 hours of their time freely to help the people of Queensland.
This figure is remarkable and an example of the enormous contribution SES volunteers make to their communities.
As Deputy Commissioner, I know I speak on behalf of all Queenslanders when I say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to each and every SES volunteer for their outstanding hard work and dedication.
SES volunteers sacrifice time with their families and at work to help the community in times of crisis, and they spend countless hours training and building their capability.
I also feel it is important to make a special mention of those people who are behind our volunteers.
The husbands, wives, partners, friends, families and employers are the strongest supporters of our volunteers and without their continued support, our volunteers would find it hard to provide the quality service they are known for.
I would like to extend an invitation to all Queenslanders to take time this week to thank their local SES volunteers, either in person or by joining the conversation on Twitter and on the QFES Facebook page.
