Burpengary Mens Shed highly successful annual toy give away outshines last year
From humble beginnings five years ago and a meeting place made available to them at the 1015 FM headquarters in Morayfield, the Burpengary and District Mens Shed built upon the generosity with plenty of enthusiasm and spirit.
Today The Burpengary and District Mens Shed has their own digs at 1/17 Maitland Street Burpengary with over 160 members who have joined and become part of something very special.
Along the way their mind has been set on both giving men for what ever reason they have, a place to go and reconnect with other as well as giving to the community.
Community groups like the Burpengary Boy Scouts and Burpengary CWA Green Wattles are some of the many groups that get assistance from the The Burpengary and District Mens Shed.
This opportunity has been embraced by the membership and is the cornerstone of its success.
Along the way these passionate men have banded together to give in many ways with around 10 devoted on the Christmas Toy Give away, this year eclipsing to over 400 toys lovingly created from wood that can be given to children in the local area.
With support from North Lakes Hymes Paints the Burpengary and District Mens Shed have partnered with Ronald McDonald House and Caboolture Lutheran Church for the distribution of toys.
Rodney Hanson says ” they have been making toys since Christmas 2019 and despite the Covid-19 lock downs preventing people getting together for 3 months … but have succeeded in making over 400 toys”.
One of the things that The Burpengary and District Mens Shed wanted to do is touch on those community groups doing it tough as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic which is how they chose both Ronald McDonald House and Caboolture Lutheran Church as worthy recipients.
Rodney says it is the children that suffer most of all in these trying times.
Last year it was Domestic Violence with Queensland Police Service
In the last week a morning tea was hosted by The Burpengary and District Mens Shed, inviting representatives from both Ronald McDonald House and Caboolture Lutheran Church to receive the toys.
