$600,000 to improve road safety for motorists and cyclists in Bellmere

Moreton Bay Regional Council will invest more than $600,000 to upgrade a 240 metre section of Bellmere Road to improve the driving surface for local motorists and bicyclists with new bicycle lanes, drainage improvements and a right-turn lane.

Division Three Councillor Adam Hain said Allroads Pty Ltd had been appointed to undertake the upgrade project including road surface improvements along Bellmere Road between Ulster Drive to Crebra Court, Bellmere.

“Bellmere Road is utilised by 10,000 motorists daily, so it’s imperative this stretch of road is maintained well into the future to cater for our growing community’s needs,” Cr Hain said.

The road upgrade is expected commence in April and take around 12 weeks to complete, weather and construction timeframes permitting.

“By providing safer roads, we are encouraging residents to drive responsibly, cycle safely and generate better traffic flow efficiency as they travel through Bellmere Road to get to local cafes, businesses, the local park and homes with greater ease.

“Please be mindful of work crews and heed all instructions when the project gets underway; that way we can all get home safe to our families.

Cr Hain said the contractor would ensure all reasonable measures would be taken to minimise disruptions to local residents, taking into consideration other traffic arrangements in the local area.

“Works will be carried out to minimise disruption, and motorists and property owners will be notified prior to works commencing.”

The project will take around 12 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
