Community open day for Mill at Petrie State Primary School on Saturday, May 13

Moreton Bay Regional Council is encouraging local residents to have their say and find out more about The Mill at Moreton Bay’s Draft Development scheme when it hosts a community open day at Petrie State Primary School on Saturday, May 13.

From 9am to 4pm, residents can drop in and chat with council’s planning team about the project, discover concept plans and artist impressions for the 460ha site and even experience The Mill at Moreton Bay in virtual reality.

Division 7 Councillor Denise Sims said this was a great opportunity for locals to not only have their say on The Mill at Moreton Bay but also see how initial community feedback has been incorporated into the draft Development Scheme.

“As part of initial community consultation, more than 90 per cent of respondents said they were supportive of developing a university precinct at the old Petrie paper mill site. They also provided feedback on ideas for community facilities like a public library, sporting grounds, retail spaces and health precinct,” Cr Sims said.

"Much of that feedback has been incorporated into the draft Development Scheme, concept plans and artist impressions. This is now your opportunity to see how The Mill at Moreton Bay will help to generate more than 6,000 jobs, 10,000 university places and $950 million for the local economy.

“You’ll be able to look at 3D renderings of what the site may look like, the 110ha of dedicated environmental reserve as part of the project, and even wear virtual reality goggles that will take you a on 360-degree journey through The Mill at Moreton Bay.

“Your community feedback on the day will form a big part of how we develop this bustling new destination in Moreton Bay.”

Cr Sims said all feedback from the community open day would be considered by council and Economic Development Queensland before the Development Scheme was finalised.

The community open day forms part of consultation on The Mill at Moreton Bay’s draft Development Scheme, which includes an online survey and submissions that can be made online, via post or email.
