Moreton Bay continues mozzie treatments
Moreton Bay Regional Council will continue its aerial mosquito management program this Sunday, March 12.
From 6am, council’s vector management helicopter will treat saltmarsh areas in Elimbah, Ningi, Bribie Island, Beachmere, Burpengary East, and Deception Bay.
The aerial treatments will target mozzie larvae before they have the chance to emerge, and coincides with council’s ongoing program to treat mozzies on the ground in public places like parks, sports facilities and local reserves.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Lifestyle and Amenity Spokesperson Councillor Matt Constance said the treatments were a great reminder for residents to do their bit and help combat mosquitoes in and around the home, where most mozzies breed.
“Combatting mozzies in the home is as easy as taking five minutes to empty any containers that might have rainwater, change the water in your pet’s bowl and make sure your swimming pool remains chlorinated,” Cr Constance said.
“By working together as a community we can help to manage mozzie numbers in the region.”
Cr Constance encouraged people to apply mosquito repellent when heading outdoors, especially at dawn and dusk during the mosquito season.
