Petition for Disability School Bus Program Gaining ground in Caboolture
Mark Ryan Member for Morayfield says that a petition has already gained 2000 signatures for a push for support of the Disability school bus program.
The Region is well supported by the bus drivers delivering kids to the Caboolture Special School however Mark Ryan says that up to the end 2019 the service is being run successfully by the Queensland Government, after 2020 the service will be transferred to to the Federal Government and operated by the NDIS.
Mr Ryan told 101.5 FM Morning Magazine Program that the problem now is that there is no information is being provided by the Federal Government as to how the transition will happen and how the transport services will be provided.
There is a lot of nervous people out there both parents and bus drivers and providers as to what will happen in 2020, so Mark Ryan has led the charge to give an indication through a petition to illustrate to the Federal Government the huge need that exists and that this is a important program and needs certainty.
Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that:
(1) from 1 January 2020, the responsibility for the current school transport assistance program for students with a disability in Queensland transfers to the Turnbull LNP Federal Government under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS); and
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to support the Queensland Government's efforts in lobbying the Turnbull LNP Federal Government to guarantee that the current school transport assistance program for students with a disability in Queensland will continue to be available under the NDIS from 1 January 2020.
