An Initiative of The Brisbane Tolkien Fellowship brings books to kids in foster and statutory care

Peter Kenny has a challenge for all of us which we are mostly capable of meeting that challenge.

It is as simple as donating a book towards an iniative to collect 1500 books for kids in foster and statutory care.

During an interview with Andrew McCarthy-Wood on the Wednesday Morning Magazine Program Mr Kenny described the great delight kids in Foster and Statutory care have when they have a book to which they are able the escape the reality of their existance.

The Brisbane Tolkien Fellowship has come to the rescue by raising money for the Pajama Foundation which fosters love of learning and reading.

Peter Kenny has said that Progress has been a challenge in meeting the target, who hopes through community awareness to encourage others to get on board with this project.

Mr Kenny also illustrated the group has embraced the modern technology through cloud funding approaches if people wish to donate money towards their valuable work assisting the lives of these children.

What is needed is books to be donate children's book to the campaign by posting the books to their P.O. Box and alternatives may be possible by contacting the fellowship.

The Iniative is called, Donate a Hobbit Book with each book presented as a gift to a child who has been removed from the family home. These children are removed from their homes due to some form of abuse, trauma or neglect

Our goal is to achieve a target of 1500 Hobbit Books before October 15th. The books will then be presented at our Annual Dinner Dance to The Pyjama Foundation.

The Pyjama Foundation helps bring some quality and normality to the lives of over1300 children in foster care from Cairns to Melbourne in Australia.

The Pyjama Foundation, provides children in foster care the opportunity to change the direction of their lives with learning, life skills and confidence. Through the Love of Learning program, volunteers called ‘Pyjama Angels’ are recruited, screened, trained and then matched with a child in care and spend time with them once a week, focusing on learning-based activities. Pyjama Angels read books aloud with their child, play educational games and help children with their homework. Most importantly, the volunteers give foster children a chance to reach their life potential, despite a fragile start. Children in care have the lowest education outcomes nationally. By improving their learning skills, The Pyjama Foundation is making a positive, life-long impact.
