Big field tipped for Jetty 2 Jetty Fun Run at Redcliffe on July 17
The Jetty 2 Jetty Fun Run continues to go the distance, 30 years after the first event when competitors ran 4.75km and were rewarded with a free sausage sizzle at the end.
There were 120 runners that year compared to more than 3000 who have registered for this Sunday’s event which will draw people from across southeast Queensland and around the world.
Race director Kate Jackson said competitors could take part in a choice of 3km, 5km, 10km and half marathon distances.
“J2J is a race for all ages and abilities. The stunning course, on course entertainers, volunteers and pacers all contribute to an amazing atmosphere on course,” Ms Jackson said.
“Serious runners love the atmosphere, waterfront running and prize money.”
Ms Jackson said the event had always had a great community and family atmosphere.
“We encourage and support first-time participants to achieve their goals and have a great morning,” she said.
This year, Jetty 2 Jetty has partnered with the Women’s Cancer Foundation and so far more than $5000 has been raised with competitors still raising money via Everyday Hero Fundraising pages.
Ms Jackson said a portion of each entry fee would also be donated to the foundation.
This year’s event will again include a healthy living expo offering a range of stalls from health services, footwear and apparel, gyms, supplements and personal training groups.
The run starts at Crockatt Park, near the Woody Point Jetty, at varying times from 6.45am.
Online registration is available until 3pm on July 16 at http://j2j.com.au/register/ and in-person entries can be processed at the race kit pick-up location at Dolphins Health Precinct on (July 14 from 3-7pm, July 15 from 2-6pm and July 16 from 9-3pm).
Parking is available at Crockatt Park and in surrounding streets on race day.
