Moreton Bay Regional Helicopter targets mosquitos Tuesday

Due to high tides on the weekend, Moreton Bay Regional Council’s vector management helicopter has begun saltmarsh mosquito treatments this morning, with aerial spraying expected to continue Tuesday May 10, subject to favourable flying conditions.

Yesterdays aerial treatments  targeted saltmarsh mosquito larvae in tidal areas including Redcliffe, Rothwell, Deception Bay, Griffin, Mango Hill and Lawnton.

Tuesday’s treatment areas will include Caboolture, Beachmere, Ningi, Toorbul, Burpengary, Bribie Island and Elimbah.

Residents are reminded to empty any containers around the home such as pot plant saucers and old tyres that may collect rain water and provide ideal breeding conditions for freshwater container mosquitoes.

Products for adult mosquitoes control around the home are available from most hardware shops for residents wishing to treat around their property.

Residents are also advised to apply insect repellent if outside, particularly around sunrise and sunset.
