Lawrence Springborg to head Queensland's crime and corruption committee
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has agreed to the Opposition's request to have its former leader, Lawrence Springborg, appointed chair of the Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee.
Mr Springborg was dumped by his Liberal National Party leader on Friday, and opted to avoid a shadow cabinet position in favour of sitting on the committee, which oversees the Crime and Corruption Commission.
"This morning I spoke to the new Opposition Leader and agreed to his request for Mr Springborg to chair the PCCC," Ms Palaszczuk said.
It is the only non-Government committee chair position appointed by the Opposition, but must get bipartisan support.
The LNP had nominated veteran Jeff Seeney for the role in 2015, but it was rejected by the Labor Government.
Current PCCC chair Trevor Watts would have to step down to make way for Mr Springborg.
