Ambitious redevelopment Gym to move into old Coles site at Redcliffe
The former Redcliffe Coles building, which has been empty for more than two years, will soon be home to a 24-hour gym.
Elders Redcliffe principal Adam Boland said the gym would take up half of the building. He said negotiations were ongoing to lease the remainder of the area.
Mr Boland said he was not able to disclose the name of the gym but confirmed it would be a franchise, run by locals.
“Since October, we have had a number of offers including one from JB Hi-Fi, but they didn’t come off, ” Mr Boland said.
“I am excited for a 24-hour-gym and I think it fits in with the health and lifestyle precinct around here.”
A lot of work needs to be done to prepare the vacant building including removing the old check-out stands.
If contractors are available, Mr Boland said the gym could be open within three months. The building’s exterior will also be given a makeover.
“The windows will either be cleaned or replaced, there will be new signage and a general facelift,” he said.
Redcliffe City Chamber of Commerce president Peter Morley said it would be good to see the location used again but questioned if a gym was the right choice for the area.
“I am doubtful that a gym will draw people to the retail area,” Mr Morley said.
“I don’t think it really fits with the retail holiday mix of the area.”
