Retail spending rises 0.4% in August

Australian retail spending rose 0.4 per cent in August, official figures show, which met economists' expectations.

The August figure was boosted by 1.3 per cent rises in both the department stores' and other' retailing categories.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics says total retail spending was $24.4 billion in August, up from $24.3 billion in July.
