School holidays beat the heat fun

Escape the heat and delve into a world of wonderment, creativity and imagination across the region’s Libraries, Galleries and Museums during the school holidays in Moreton Bay.

From playtime to story time, makeup classes and the latest in virtual reality, your local library could be the best place for kids to stay entertained these school holidays.

“Children can also get involved with technology in Battle Flippers, the Sphero Challenge as well as Dots and Dashes robotics workshops,” said spokesperson for Lifestyle and Amenity Denise Sims.

“Learn about STEAM concepts and explore virtual reality, kaleidoscopes, and balloon rocket cars or get creative in Wild Things drama classes, Writing Fantasy and Science Fiction workshop, Island Paradise Cake Decorating, and Special FX Makeup too.

“Adults can introduce their kids to the magic of the movie ‘Smiley’ with a visit to Redcliffe Museum’s latest exhibition Smiley comes home - The lives of Colin Petersen - on until February 17.

“Best of all you can actually see the movie ‘Smiley’ in the company of its star Colin Petersen at the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre on January 22 - Colin will be in the audience and is happy to answer questions and sign DVDs on the day.

“For young bookworms there’s the Summer Reading Club on until 31 January, where for every three hours of reading you can be entered for weekly prize - provided you keep up the holiday reading over summer!”

Prizes include $25 and $50 book vouchers and the more hours you read, the more chances you have to win. Visit: www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/src
