NRL news/snippets:

  • Cronulla salary cap breach- self reported. The discrepancies CEO Barry Russell found were in relation to third party agreements that related back to the 2015 season. The NRL has been investigating the club for the past three months. Russell revealed the rorting was done in the 2015 season. The NRL had previously refused to reveal exactly when the cheating was meant to have taken place.
  • Clubs found guilty of salary cap rorting may face fines of up to $2 million as the NRL considers doubling the financial penalties that can be imposed for serious breaches. NRL CEO Todd Greenberg revealed during a press conference on Wednesday about the investigation into alleged salary cap breaches by Cronulla that he had been asked by the ARL Commission to review the maximum fine clubs could receive.
  • Reports the Titans have approached Penrith star James Maloney- possibly to replace Tyrone Peachey-Titans Panthers feeder club
  • The Dragons have been plunged further into crisis mode with reports of a dressing room blow-up after last weekend’s thrashing by lowly Canterbury. Apparently there was an angry confrontation between senior player James Graham and young gun Matt Dufty. The loss was the Dragons’ fourth in their last five games and Graham - a gritty British battler - was fuming at how Dufty and several other young players didn’t seem to take the gravity of the situation seriously enough.
  • Club legends Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah will both play on at the Wests Tigers next season after agreeing to terms for 2019.
