Safer intersections for Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay
Four new projects across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay region have been given the green light under the Palaszczuk Government’s Safer Roads Sooner initiative.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the long-running initiative continued to provide safety benefits for Queenslanders.
“Safer Roads Sooner is one of our strongest road safety improvement programs and focuses on high-benefit, cost-effective treatments at known and potential crash locations,” Mr Bailey said.
“Any crash is one too many, so initiatives like this are vital to making sure we have the safest, most improved road network available to motorists.”
Safety improvements in the Sunshine Coast region include:
- $496,000 to install a new right-turn arrow signal and extend the westbound right-turn lane on Maroochydore Road at the Baden Powell Street and Amaroo Street intersection.
Safety improvements in the Moreton Bay region include:
- $1.15 million to install new traffic signals at the Brighton-Redcliffe Road (known as Oxley Avenue) and Irene Street intersection and extend the right-turn lane on Oxley Avenue
- $1.02 million for widening the Strathpine-Samford Road (known as Eatons Crossing Road) and Eden Drive intersection for a deceleration lane for motorists turning left into Eden Drive, and a right-turn lane for motorists turning right into Eden Drive
- $595,000 to extend both right-turn lanes on South Pine Road (known as Albany Creek Road) at the Ferguson Street and Wruck Crescent intersection, and modify traffic signals to control right-turn movements.
Mr Bailey said the upgrades would take place in the 2019-20 financial year.
“The Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay region are growing quickly so this announcement is fantastic news for each area, and I would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience while we undertake the works,” Mr Bailey said.
